Re: GAME: Yes or No Game

Come on, now. Need some more description on some of these answers. Gotta have some stories attached to them. Keep the theme going, but stories welcome!

Need to hear about the opossum.

I haven't had driving school, but I made my kids do it when they got tickets.

    Continuing the theme…

Yes, but there's a twist here. Have paid many tolls for vehicle when it wasn't mine – ever. Try renting a car in New York, for example…

Have you ever had a rental car and had damage to the car? (I will add my experience later after someone else answers.)

No, can't say it tastes like chicken. A little gamier and almost as stringy as a racoon and just as greasy...

Bland. Like a less flavorful rabbit.
It is protein and beats eating a snowball when you are hungry and your stomach is growling.

I'd guess you could salt and pepper it, or spice it up, or whatever sauces you might have, and make your own flavor with it.

I enjoy good food, but I've never been one to complain about whatever I have to eat. We keep Tony Chachere's on top of the stove, and I'll sprinkle it on soup, meat, baked potato, whatever if it's not flavorful. Sunday night I usually eat a cup of Ramen -- the terrible for you, "brick" kind -- before I go play basketball. I'll toss some cayenne pepper in it and make it nice and spicy.

    I'm easy.

I asked the last question, so I thought I'd revisit it here -- Have you ever had a rental car and had damage to the car?

Haven't damaged one myself, but I did rent a truck and they claimed damage, but fortunately we had photoed it when we got it, and they let it go. Just scratching and scrapes, which is typical and almost always from trees.

Playing along this line, is there one food you'd rather starve than eat, which other people actually like?
People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

“Starve” is a strong word, if I was starving there are a few things I’d eat that I normally wouldn’t. But to your point, bell peppers (red, green, yellow) I typically won’t eat especially stuffed peppers, and or that pepper steak thing. I’ll eat a supreme pizza with peppers on it, here and there…and then, it’s really not the flavor of the peppers I don’t like, but the relentless indigestion that always follows after eating them that I detest.

Have you ever unintentionally started a fire that caused great stress, angst, and drama?

I caught a field on fire once while barrel burning that I came close to calling the fire department to extinguish… I ended up getting it put down, but at first it was a pretty intense situation.

Q: Have you ever unintentionally started a fire that caused great stress, angst, and drama?

No, and I don't know how it was avoided. As 12-14 year olds, we lived with woods right behind the house, and more woods all around the neighborhood. We built an underground hidden camp with candles built in, made fires all the time and probably lucky we didn't burn down the town of Mobile, Alabama.

Revisiting my question about rental car damage, I've had two incidents. I have been a pretty frequent renter so you'd almost expect something. First time I got in the car, drove down not a mile down the road, and saw a windshield crack. Turned around, and started driving it back and it got bigger and bigger until it was the entire length of the windshield.

I argued with the manager that there was no way anything hit the windshield and that I noticed the small crack starting to expand just shortly after I left their premises, and on the same exact road they were located. I said the crack must have been tiny and too small to have seen and just expanded. I was credible, because I was telling the truth and fortunately they agreed with me.

The second time was on my way to Atlanta when my son and I went to see Kentucky beat North Carolina this past year in basketball. Was driving a Hertz rental when I heard something pop on the windshield. I told my son that a rock just hit the windshield and we needed to watch and see if a cracked developed. We drove about 10 miles and I noticed something that I didn't know if it was a glare or something else such as a crack. It was a crack.

The process was not as bad as I thought it would be. Hertz did not jack up the price, and I think the total cost to replace the windshield was like $420. I filed a claim with my credit card company that covers loss damage waivers online, and they asked for some documentation and such which I was able to send online. They approved paying the claim and issued a check and sent me evidence that they issued it. The only issue was that the rental car company did not give me credit right away, and sent me a letter and had a guy call me. I sent the guy a copy of the letter and evidence that the credit card company had paid them and it was all fine. I have rented several times since then.

When I was in Middle School, we lived in Hurstbourne (right next door to the Mormon Church). This was the mid 70's so not much there, relatively speaking. We had a tree house in a vacant lot that overhang Hurstbourne lane, about 1/2 between the expressway and Shelbyville road. We liked to throw smoke bombs from the treehouse out onto the road . We were doing it one day, had stopped, and about 30 min later we heard a bunch of fire trucks coming. We looked and notice the entire medium was a smoldering grass fire. Fortunately we never got caught for that.

Yes, fortunately a small one. I did have a coral snake in my house a few years back. Thought it was a corn snake. Swept it outside then realized it had a black nose (forget the rhyme, if it has a black nose, it's a coral snake). We didn't let our dogs out for a week

Me and friend wrangled in a coral snake on Martin Co golf course. Couldn’t give it away to zoo’s in Fl, even called Cincy zoo nobody wanted it… the snake ended up on a black Stetson, that was one good looking hat.

Not sure there is a question on the board, so I will pose one:

Do you always wear a watch?

Guess that is the old guy in me. I will have my cellphone on the table when we are in a meeting and I will still check my watch.

Does anybody, besides me, still carry a pocket knife?

Yes, in fact I have several watches but the one I wear daily is the one that Ms.boss gave for a birthday present several years ago….

I don't like jewelry, and with a ring finger that has been broken twice and is crooked and swells, that even usually includes my wedding ring. My wife jokes about it, and I try to make sure I put it on if there's an event.

But the one exception I make is a watch. Depending on the day, I have a nice dress up watch given to me by my SIL, an expensive but sort of every day watch that flies under the radar unless you notice that my FIL gave me, and a Seiko watch my Dad gave me. I've told the story about the Seiko before, and how it stopped working when I went into his house after his funeral, and stayed not working for a couple of hours while we were there. When my brother drove off in his car and we went back to the hotel, it started again, and continued keeping perfect time for more than a year thereafter. It was like Dad telling me it was OK, and time to move on.

But with all of those, I wear a Garmin Venu 3 nearly 24/7 these days. Just does too many health and business related things for me to not wear it.

Pappy, I am going to say no, but with an asterisk.

While I may not have it in my pocket, I keep a pocket knife in my car so it goes everywhere I go. I keep another one in an ammo case when I travel (perfect for electronics, keeping things dry, and also what it's meant for).

So my Benchmade is with me most of the time, or a no name brand lock blade that I don't mind abusing if I need to. And depending on what I'm doing, I sometimes slip the knife into my pocket from the car console as I get out.

So no, but pretty close to yes. I'm irritated because I had a couple of smaller knives that were decent brands and I have no idea where those (I used to call them pen knives, but probably not the right name, as they may have been bigger than a true pen knife).

Pappy, do you have a favorite one you carry, or does it just depend?

Hopefully more people will answer and somebody else will do the next question, too.

I wear an old black faced Swiss Army Watch, my wife has red faced and a black faced one, which we got with Marlboro miles years and years ago, as long as you keep fresh batteries in , they keep perfect time.

Any of you have a sun dial that you're still obsessed with it showing the correct time?

It does, I have a few watches that I acquired when my father passed… sorry dad, for now Ms. boss’s gift trumps any other watch that I choose to wear. In fact I sent Ms boss’s gift in for a make over/refurbish about a year ago, and while it was gone being serviced, its absence compounded my grief, but dad’s watches stepped in to ease my pain.

I don’t carry a pocket knife, however I do wear a leatherman on my belt at work everyday. Often times when I’m out on the floor something presents itself that requires a knife, screwdriver, or pliers.

Re the knife, I always carry a knife. Have since I was in elementary school (a Barlow at the time). Nothing expensive, if it breaks or gets lost that's fine, but you need a blade often.

Do you ever wear a tie any longer? (I do for auctions, and like them, but they are so out of fashion even for serious meetings)

Yes, feel naked without one. Have a garmin forerunner most days, and occasionally my Rolex (which for years I wore every day). That watch is "special" Shawn got it for me for graduation from Auburn. At the time we were living in a 60 foot single wide trailer in rural AL, didn't have spare change for a homeless begger, etc... and she spent 4 years pinching pennies from her paychecks to buy it for me. That was 33 years ago and it's still runs like dream. Had it rebuilt 3 times.

Never carry a pocket knife. Closest is a beer bottle opener on my Keychain. Do have a Swiss Army in my car though
