Re: Horse trainer D Wayne Lucas put out to pasture... RIP
He was one of the top trainers in the history of racing. He was also a nice guy. It’s a very sad day for the Sport of Kings.

Horse trainer D Wayne Lucas put out to pasture... RIP
I had the pleasure of meeting him after the 1995 derby and his win with Thunder Gulch. He couldn’t have been more pleasant, just a truly nice guy. When I shook his hand I remember thinking he had just been holding the derby trophy.

Re: Horse trainer D Wayne Lucas put out to pasture... RIP
When we had our annual Derby rainout/cookout I saw a little filly in the fifth race that he trained, and going off at about 5-1 odds, I placed a bet for Grammy and she played on that money for the rest of the day.
I don't gamble as a rule, but when I did DWL was not really a bet, it was more of a lock.
May he find rest in the arms of his maker...
There will never be another like him...and sad is the world for that fact...One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter.
