Underwater Photography Phone Case
I have a spare iPhone 12 and thinking about getting a case for it so the girls can take pictures underwater with it. Anyone have any hands-on experience with any underwater cases? Currently watching some reviews, but I prefer hands on experience from people that are not getting paid

Re: Underwater Photography Phone Case
Added to say on the cheaper end. $50 range or less. Not any $400 dollar options.

Re: Underwater Photography Phone Case
Yes, but it's at the house. I can look at it tonight. Wife and I used them, they are generic bag cases, and they did OK. They did let us click etc through them, though not seamlessly. It was extremely effective at the waterproof part, which was my biggest issue obviously.
People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

Re: Underwater Photography Phone Case
The Gen3 Shellbox looks pretty nice for the price range, but not perfect either. The clear bag reviews seem to be all over the place. I'd pay the $50 for something that is worth it, but at the end of the day, this is for a 7 and 9 year old to play with in the pool....

Re: Underwater Photography Phone Case
Buy an underwater camera and protect your phone even more than with a case. I just had the occasion to use my "backup" phone, 6 generations back, for an emergency phone when my current one broke unexpectedly. Keep that iPhone 12 for that benefit!
Case is almost guaranteed to protect your phone. Almost.
Here's one designed for kids (but you could use it too) at Amazon. $30. Does still photos and video. Has 9,000 reviews. That was just the first quick one I saw. (I saw one locally on Facebook Marketplace that was not kids-oriented for $20, used, of course.)

I've thought about that also. The iPhone 12 is my spare, but we should be getting new ones soon and my 14 will become my backup. While I miss my Androids, as work makes me carry an iPhone. It is nice getting the new model every year as they provide it.

Re: Underwater Photography Phone Case
Revisiting this one. I had decided to just go buy a GoPro knock off. I forget the brand now, but it had great reviews and compared to the GoPro, and I think it was around $100 or so, but....
My 8 year old decided she wanted one for Christmas and it had to be purple, so we ended up getting the one Darrell posted above. Used it for the first time this past week. Pictures are just okay, but the girls had lots of fun with it and should have more fun this summer in the pool.
For some reason, the other pics will not upload.

Underwater Photography Phone Case
That's a terrific photo.
I have a Yi 4k Action and Sports Camera, purchased years ago (November 2018, Amazon tells me), that has been amazing as a Go Pro clone. Paid $160 with an accessory pack back then. Can't remember what Go Pro was charging, but it was way more.
I even bought 3 extra batteries for it so I never run out, although the batteries last about 2 hours each - still, and I bought them in 2019. Have used it for everything, including quietly recording plays and performances that, umm, they don't want you to record, to all the family Christmases for years. We're picky with video and it does a nice job. I still prefer my dedicated Canon camcorder for sporting events, and really, most things, on a tripod, but this is so easy to put on a minitripod with flexible arms and wrap around something.
I have various accessories for it and I'm planning to bring it with me to Japan next month with a bunch of micro SD cards. I've always used it for video and really never thought about using it for photos, but no reason not to use it.

If we go back, or do a similar experience, I'll get something nicer. But for now, they can have some fun with this one before they break it

Re: Underwater Photography Phone Case
Oh, that the best photo by far. Had some other good ones, but that was the best. It was hard to do. I've never snorkeled so that was different. It is hard to see the camera. And once the stingray that looks like a shark swam under us I was also holding two girls...

For their future peace of mind I suggest showing them the innocent looking mouth on the ray.

Re: Underwater Photography Phone Case
Best shots you'll get for the $$ is any GoPro with a housing. Just put on a selfie stick and record.
These are mine with a GP Hero 2 (I think)

I went this route when Kayaking as well since I drowned my Samsung note (floating dry bag sank).

Re: Underwater Photography Phone Case
I picked it up on ebay used, pretty cheap. Its still solid several generations later.
Ive been certified since I was 15. Didn't dive for years (other than bringing up my sink boat lmao) and had a great run on Cayman Brac from 2009 - 2016.
Unreal diving and low key place (but not much to do without diving).
Made some KY friends there and she was Cawoods niece!
Saw the UK shirt and it was on. They actually live near me here, but we've never hung out in KY lol.
New partner since 2017, much better life, but dive trips don't fit our life. NC mtns much better to us (and my growing distaste for heat lol)
