Phil Lesh Rocks on outta here

I could hear his voice come through the music, and hold it near as it were my own.

Hot Tuna, split from Airplane, sing Rev Davis’ mournful tune. Also covered by the Dead, but Jorma and another great bassist, Jack Cassidy, do this right. Still gets spins on my old victrola.

This is my morning alarm. Many times I just let it play. They never played this little jam again.

Slightly pre-dating the Skull and Roses album above. Starts out edging towards “Dark Star” and then goes somewhere else.

I have many philosophical and moral ambiguities regarding the band. But I believe in the serendipity of the universe from a few minutes of music like this.

Tonight the Kennedy center "honors the Grateful Dead". Meh... They tossed us rowdy dead end delinquents out in 1975 and justifiably, we were not the Babs Streisand with the Philharmonic set they were looking for. I'm still not. They don't honor Jerry or Phil because they're dead. Like, really dead, not Grateful Dead. Toss some dirt on us, sing Ripple as a requiem, we're done if our rebellion has been co-opted. I'm old but still tryin.

    Midnight on a carousel ride
    Reaching for the gold ring
    Down inside
    Never could reach
    it just slips away
    But I try...
