    Last Post Wins

Worst bout of insomnia I've had in a long time today. Have not slept any, although I tried. I'm away from home - if I'm home and this happens, I get up, sometimes have a bowl of cereal, or a cup of hibiscus tea, watch TV, or actually do a little work and in 90 minutes or so, I get sleepy.

Nothing like that possible here. So I just struggle through, read on my phone set to black and white, no blue light, and wait for everyone else to get up. Early bedtime tonight.

I woke up at 3:00 this morning, I was thinking, glad I’m not working tomorrow. I take herbal sleepy capsules… I’ve posted on insomnia thread before, melatonin free. Solaray SP17 valerian, and skull cap root or some such non-sense. Go see the hippie chic at your local Rainbow Blossom, I always carry them when traveling. They stop the head clutter, and don’t leave me groggy in the morning. I’ve found that three of them does the trick… (don’t panic, they’re herbal).

If you have access to Netflix there a series called Turning Point The Bomb and the Cold War… for me there is no need to watch it, I turn it with the sound down low, roll over and just listen to it, it’s taken me a week to make it through two episodes. The narrator’s voice puts me straight to sleep. It’s really quite interesting, at least with some of the historical “facts”. Another good one is on the History Channel, WWII, I don’t make it past Germany invading Poland.

Mrs. BEvans will start out in our bed, wake up around 3, move to the couch and put on a BBC historical documentary of some sort. She's out like a light.

Toasty out there, but then again it is summer, I wouldn’t expect any different. Stay hydrated…

    Re: Last Post Wins

Damn good cat, "Mittens," passed away today. He adopted us more than 17 years ago. Was an "outside cat" we saw roaming around, would come around and we'd give him treats or whatever. Nobody seemed to know where he came from. Weather turned cool, then cold, and I got my kids' Little Tyke house, pulled it around to our front, and bought a heat lamp to put in it to keep him warm.

From there, he decided he'd venture in. He became an inside/outside cat for us then. We took him to the vet after telling them we had a stray cat that had apparently decided to make us his new home, and he laughed when he saw Mittens. Weighed 18 pounds, and wasn't missing any meals. Vet thinks he was between 1-2 years old, so he was either 18 or 19 today. He was a fierce, and efficient hunter. Plenty of times he brought us "gifts" to thank us for homing him.

One day a few years ago he came in from his outside venture and he showed some battle scars where he got into a fight with something. No doubt he won the fight, but we took him to the vet and he told us not to let him get outside while the wound healed. He wailed about that for awhile, but eventually got used to it, and decided he liked having central air and heat, with 24/7 buffet available, and adapted to being an inside only cat.

Last couple of years his health was failing as he was experiencing kidney failure. We converted to wet food and did everything possible to make him comfortable, and he enjoyed a great quality of life during that time. We reached an agreement where we'd take him out into the yard and he'd agree not to run off, and we'd often just sit there quietly enjoying nature and warning chipmunks and squirrels that they were taking their lives in their own hands if they dared to make their presence known.

Mittens was a hunter/scavenger, and I swear there's nothing he didn't enjoy eating or drinking. We caught him dipping his paw in "Cheetah beer" from Cincinnati, eating macaroni and cheese, drinking diet coke and drinking coffee over the years. I closed my office door a few minutes ago and found a few videos of all of those things.

He enjoyed his last visit outside today before passing. Going to miss sharing my food and beverages, Mittens. Thanks for a great ride, sir.

Oh how our fur babies tug at our heart strings.
Condolences to you and yours at this time for the loss at his passing and congratulations as well for a lifetime (for a feline) of memories well spent with Mittens.

    lol Pappy.

I reset it to 0 day before yesterday. (j/k, but some time ago I did reset it. Didn't know if anyone noticed, but it was embarrassing that it was so many, and I did not want to have my posts given more/less weight because of the sheer number of posts. I ran across it accidentally in the admin section and thought it would be cool unless I wiped myself out, which I thought might be in everyone's best interest if I did anyway, so I tried it and it worked.)

I meant on his post count. I knew once he got to 7 digits he'd feel the weight of it.

I'm winning this thread in the end as well of course. I'm as inevitable as Thanos.

My jammed fingers from 15 days ago playing basketball still bothering me, and my little finger now crooked like my ring finger, so wife told me to go to the doc. X-rayed this afternoon, will hear something back tomorrow. Don't think it's broken, but who the heck knows?

What are the odds on Kentucky’s Andy Beshear being Kamala Harris’ running mate? It’s got to be him or Shapiro doesn’t it? That’s the kind of wager Draft Kings should be taking.

As long as they don't bet on the future of democracy given our choices lately. I'll take out a mortgage to bet on that one...

    Here we go…

Given the house rules on political discussions being held anywhere but the Babershop, I feel an administrator is going to lock the thread and move it, providing them with the last post as a notification.

It was so foggy this morning I asked Siri to navigate me to work. It turned out I didn’t need the help but one morning a month or two ago it would have come in handy.
