    Bill Saltsman

For anyone that attended North Hardin High School back in the day, and others who were also acquainted, my Uncle, Bill Saltsman passed away just a short while ago. He was the custodian at North for many years before transferring to the Hardin County Schools main office as a Maintenence technician where he retired years later. Many in Hardin County who taught or were affiliated with schools knew him well, and he was the man who kept things running for years all across the county.

After his retirement he eventually visited every State in the Union and lived a good long life while touching many people, and having helped many along the way. I love you Uncle Billo'!

Home at last with Wanda and Dale!

Thanks so much. You would have enjoyed knowing him. And no doubt he would have been beneficial to know in some way. He could do about anything and create solutions on the fly, where there often appeared to be none.

I recall there was some inherent problem with air conditioning units at several schools across the county. (My old drummer worked for maintenance too and relayed this story to me) After my Uncle had been taken off field work and as his retirement approached, they had to inquire as to the wiring on the systems. It seems he had made a major change to the schematics to correct the problem, and no one could understand or repair the system.
They were a bit dismayed and even complained that he had done it so as to prevent anyone else from understanding how to make repairs. Truth was however, he corrected a manufacturers problem using his experience as an electrician back in the early sixties, and his general knowledge of heating and air.

He even installed complex systems on the side for many people, and wired many new homes including mine back in the nineties. A great golfer..an avid deer hunter back in the day, a game warden for a few years who ran the hunts on the Fort Knox reservation. He built jeeps and Broncos, fixed up classic cars with racing engines, could run heavy equipment, built his own brick home etc.. And I am certain I am leaving out many other talents.

Rather amazing as I look back on his life. In fact, we may have taken him for granted a bit. But we all certainly loved him as he was the patriarch of our large family for many years and always took the lead in any endeavor.
