I just spent a long weekend in Canada. I have 2 friends who have had health issues but their paths of treatment are very different.
One had 2 90% blockages and his life was in danger. He was put to the front of the line and had bypass surgery. Quick and life saving and no cost to him. Good deal, right?
Another Ukrainian friend who lives in Ontario has a liver disease. His condition is at times debilitating and life altering, but not life threatening. So his condition is kicked down the road until his life in danger, he heals miraculously or he dies. Not quite the same as the first example. Care rationing is decidedly a part of their system.

All economics is about the allocation of scarce resources. Until we have dilithium warp drives that can create matter from energy, we will face that basic truth.

Then the question is how to most efficiently allocate those sources. Capitalism is by far the winner in that area, and a system of health care that is not pure capitalism but uses the incentive based principles of capitalism would work well.

Socialist systems are horrible at allocating resources, so you'll get massive inefficiency and, maybe worse, no choices. That's the thing about socialism, you get what you get.

That's just what we need. A hospital with all the compassion and efficiency of the Department of Motor Vehicles.
People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

This vid is 10 years old, but I’ve had my Canadian friends tell me it’s fairly accurate.
Steve Crowder is a conservative commentator on YouTube. Folks will say he’s a loud mouthed American. His dad is American, but his mom is French Canadian, he was born in the US but raised in Quebec and currently lives in Quebec so he has personal experience of what he is showing here..

I love the comparison to Canada. The minimum tax rate North of the Border is 15%. That is what EVERYBODY pays as minimum. There are not people who pay zero federal income tax, like roughly 50% of the citizens in the USA. Thus the truly poor individual who makes $5000 is going to lose $750 in taxes annually. That goes all the way to those making 47K. So you make 47K and you lose over 7K in taxes. In the US, that person likely pays ZERO. Rather than CHOOSING to put that cash towards insurance, people elect to buy cell phones, big screen TV's, nice cars, etc.. (as is their choice) then want somebody else to pay when they get sick.

Other universal health care countries are worse.
Australia is 19% for anything over 8K (then 32% after)
Great Britian is 20% for anything over 18K, then 40% at 51K...etc

so in America, you have nearly 50% of the nation paying zero income tax. That does not happen in countries with UHC. Everybody pays. Of course that does not get mentioned because its easier to sell "you will get this for free because the rich will pay" rather than in order for this to work, we are going to reach into YOUR pocket for 15% of every cent you earn.
