    Northern Lights

Where were the photos taken… I saw an article that the NLs were going to be visible a lot farther south than normal.

    Northern Lights

I’m 7 miles south of Greenville, KY. In Muhlenberg County. I’m between Greenville and the Todd County line if that helps.

    Little community called Weir.

We could see fuschia hues in the sky tonight in Naples FL where I live. Very odd to see it this far south. Not quite as vivid as what you have up north IMG_8122.jpg

Ky gets it, I thought you might be up north somewhere like MI. or something.

It was cool to see and "they" say we should be able to see them again tonight, perhaps even better.

    Re: Northern Lights

I do not know how to post a picture from my phone.

Standing in the rocky hills above the twinkling Gallatin valley, I looked straight up to see what looked like an angel, directly overhead, with a “full moon bright” light behind it. And the rays of that light streaked 360 degrees out and down to the horizon, where the snow covered mountain ranges reflected the glory in the sky.

    My words fail.

But I do recall the words I learned as a boy on beautiful Sunday mornings, “The heavens declare the Glory of God, and the firmament sheweth His Handiwork”. From sunset till midnight it was a pretty good show, curtains, searchlights, etc, but at midnight the sky just exploded.

I have seen dozens of auroras, working midnights in the trainyards of Montana, but last night’s was profound. Some of you follow on Facebook have seen the pictures from others that I posted.

Thanks, we just got home from a tournament. My girls were not able to see them on the way home. I'll go back out look in a little bit.

I'd love to see that if you can figure it out.

    Re: Northern Lights

My friend Blake took “the worst” of the pictures I collected from others.

The “searchlights” and “curtains” are the usual manifestations of northern lights. A cowboy friend of mine who became a county commissioner left me this:

“As a north Montana farm kid in the mid-60’s I vividly remember standing in a dark field watching a show much like last night. That night, also, with an angel at the apex. A most memorable, awe inspiring evening.”

    Northern Lights

Is the light show expected to continue through tonight? I could theoretically leave the panhandle this evening and drive through the night to cover a lot of ground with a northward heading enhancing my chance of catching the event.

    Re: Northern Lights

They were intensity of 7 last night, but 9.5-9.7 the night before. It was an event like nothing since the 1800s.

    Re: Northern Lights

The guy that was with me took the 1st one, directly overhead, and despite the poor quality you can see the streaks all the way down to the horizon.

The clearest one is from a couple 1000 feet higher.

Those are some cool photos; the lights almost looked tie-dyed. Thanks for sharing those pictures.
