Opening Day of Deer Season, Well??????????
Alright guys, how did everyone do up in Ky land? I know paducacat killed nice 8pt, but how did the rest of you do on that rather warm fall day. Ours opens this Sat, supposed to be mid 60's during the day and mid 40's at night, which means you can add 10 degrees to each and that is probably what we will have.

Re: Opening Day of Deer Season, Well??????????
Jazy, the day before season opened, I stood on my porch and watched two bucks chasing does in a field 150 yds. away for at least 30 minutes. One of the bucks would have scored 150 B.C. or better. The other would have scored 125 to 130. I didn't them see Sat. or Sunday, but Monday morning they were back chasing again. I was just getting ready to lower the boom on the big one, when my hunting buddy pulled into my driveway. The doe that he was chasing turned and ran toward me into a draw where I couldn't see them, the buck following her. My hunting buddy backed out and went back the direction he came , parked and walked upon a little knoll where he could see and while he was doing that, the big buck and doe came back into the field, but they were on the opposite end from where they had been and were too close in line with my neighbors house for me to shoot. While I was waiting for him to move to the other end, my hunting buddy opened fire on him. He shot 4 times and never touched the buck. He had dropped his rifle and knocked the scope out of alignment. I've not seen hide nor hair of them since.

Re: Opening Day of Deer Season, Well??????????
They've taken two doe and two bucks off the farm in Shelby Co. I have not had the opportunity to go out and sit in the stand just to be there. Nothing better than a crisp fall morning in the woods. (well, not many things)

Re: Opening Day of Deer Season, Well??????????
He's been too busy basking in his hunting glory to post, but thedeerehunter took a 10-point buck with a 23-3/4" inside spread a couple of nights ago. The monster field dressed at 257 pounds (yes, 257!) and green-scored 162-2/8. Seems to have come down with a serious case of permagrin ever since...

Re: Opening Day of Deer Season, Well??????????
Q-Beam lol. Seriously though, I've had a great season thus far. Not only did I score on my buck of a lifetime, but my 10 year old also got a doe earlier. She's probably gonna have a scar to prove it too since she got "scoped" pretty good. Now If my younger daughter and wife can fill their tags itll be a season for the ages. Ill try to get some pics up soon.

Congratulations old buddy! Takes a real bruiser to score that. I'd have a case of permagrin too.

Re: Opening Day of Deer Season, Well??????????
I took a friend and his son on monday afternoon. I told his 13 yr old boy he could kill a doe, a doe and buck, a buck, or two does. At 4:30 boom, at 5:00 boom, I knew not to shoot at anything if I saw something unless it was a huge stud. His dad didn't know how to clean a deer and I knew I was going to have plenty to do. He did get his two does, tickle to death. I was worn out .
Congrats hunter, can't wait for the pictures.

Re: Opening Day of Deer Season, Well??????????
A buddy of mine came up with the 162 2/8" green score, but my taxidermist said he taped it at closer to 170". I plan on having it officially scored after the mandatory drying period.

Re: Opening Day of Deer Season, Well??????????
ok, we need some measurements. G2 lenght? main beams? spread? base? G3's on right side look a tad longer than left side. But what a beautiful deer, really so symetrical. That is the type mount I like. Are you mounting him straight on or a slight turn?

Re: Opening Day of Deer Season, Well??????????
I am going to ask Darrell to post the pictures of the first deer I ever shot, in the Land Between the Lakes, 14 scorable points. Nothing like deerhunters but I was proud of him.
Let us know the finally score after he dries the required period.

Wow, that is a brute hunter! It would be even more impressive if that silly grin wasn't wider than the rack.

Re: Opening Day of Deer Season, Well??????????
The inside spread was 23 3/4", main beams were each 26 and change, G2s 10" and 10 1/2", and the bases were 5 1/2". The G3s were about the only significant deductions in terms of symmetry, with the right side being 9 1/2" and the left being around 61/2". And as big as this guy was body-wise, he's far from an old deer. Judging by his teeth, he's 4 1/2 at the oldest IMO, and I swear I think he's 3 1/2. I had my taxidermist keep the jaw bone so I can get him officially aged when I get him scored.
