Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
http://www.infowars.com/social-secur...point-bullets/
I get why. I don't get why is hasn't been explained how it got to this point. (OK, I do, but I'm really tired of the press, in general, in this country.)Cool as a rule, but sometimes bad is bad.

OK BR, it's coming and it's not the British. This country is in one hell of a mess and IMO these are the good times. If the lame duck gets in we may see a civil war and that is not a joke.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
Obama has also notified banks they need to get their houses in order because they won't be bailed out again. Sounds good on the surface but is something coming that is inevitable? Drones all over the place. Massive info gathering. Military getting instructions for handling homeland uprisings. Something's up.
Cool as a rule, but sometimes bad is bad.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
FYI....the SSA isn't the only federal agency that has been procuring large amounts of ammo and other police/riot gear. The DHS has been doing it too, as well as FEMA.
Something may be amiss, but we won't find out until it hits the proverbial fan. Where it kicks off is the question.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
Not surprising these agencies would need ammo, but HS's numbers are impressive. They kinda play up the caliber of the ammo. The .40S&W for HS is b/c I assume it includes the FBI among others and they all carry .40S&W. We'd feel pretty dumb if they carried 22s.
I have no doubt however agencies are probably wisely preparing on an ongoing basis for unrest. You never really know when it will happen or why so good to have a plan in place.
No doubt as well that more and more Americans are considering SHTF scenarios(*hit hits the fan) to be a real possibility. One indication? I'm teaching a conceal carry class in a couple of weeks and we're probably going to be turning people away due to the class size. It will be mostly women.
People are increasingly convinced (IMO coming to terms with the fact) that the government cannot protect them and they're following the Boy scout motto. FWIW this is how America was not too long ago before the liberal movement. It used to be called 'self reliant.' It just feels different b/c then we had a more rural population so it wasn't as odd to think you had to do for yourself. It's a fairly new thought for people living in cities where there is such fine deliniation of jobs.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
kinda scary isn't it. Might have to start buying some more ammo myself, plus I might need some more of that poison for my arrow heads. Seriously something is up, and like cattails said, if Obama gets reelected and he does what most of us thinks he will, the unrest will be unbelievable.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
IF, and I say IF anything happens, it will happen in some big metropolitan center, possibly several metropolitan locations, at once.
If it only happens in one place, then it may not have been planned. But if something happens simultaneously, and in different locations, then a reasonable person would have to believe that something untoward is happening.
But that's just me thinking out loud. I hope I'm wrong.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
could it be that a dictator is afraid of one thing, a armed populace which is why the founding fathers put that into the constitution that the people could be armed to insure we have freedoms and not a dictator. Could the current president be worried?

Hitler made everyone register their guns and once that was done sent the army in to seize them. Hitler was a socialist just like Obama is. Jazy, always figured that I would have to fight to get my social security anyway.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
How long can you feed 50 people with one cow? Now let's feed 100 people. At some point we have no cow to feed anyone. And while those that paid for the cow are upset, those that were living off the cow are angry. Where is my free meat???? Sounds crazy? Yes it does, but if you open your eyes it seems real. Can we not see we are a country that is either broke or going broke? At some point there is no longer a bail out, the cow is gone. And of course we should see it FIRST in the metropolitan areas, but after that it is every man for himself. Our main saving grace is grain, we feed a large part of the world, other countries would have a hard time letting the US go under. But at some point a sinking ship is easier to take over than support.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
After having cow do you think that group will settle for grain? And the dictator keeps telling those living off the cow that the one who gives the cow needs to give more, and the % of those wanting a free cow is growing while hte % of those giving the cow is shrinking.
If those idiots in DC don't wake up soon, they will be first people that the masses will be after. And somehow I don't see our military or fbi firing on our public.

Skip when FREE becomes, cheese, powered milk, powered eggs and the like Free won't be what it used to be. Then all hell breaks out. Cut backs, cut backs, cutback until it reaches the the FREE B group. Then it's not free so let's just steal it and if we have to shoot someone in the process......................well you get the picture.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
No matter what conclusions Snopes makes, in this case it is only an opinion. Purchase of bullets is not the problem, condition of our country is the problem.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
Snopes confirms the most basic fact, the purchases of ammo, and of course the agencies have said its routine.
Now, I happen to agree with Snopes that this is not prepping for general unrest but rather a matter of security and again IMO probably stepping that up in some cases. HOWEVER, Snopes needs to be very careful to draw conclusions and/or offer press releases as a fact.
I think it's very good they present a more complete story by presenting the reasons that have been given by the agencies. That's important for forming an opinion, but I worry that Snopes is becoming more of an interpreter than a "here's what is there, you decide" entity.
OK so SS Admin says it's for field agents, etc. That's fine but it is their press release and not a "fact" necessarily. The government makes lots of statements that are highly debatable. Snopes taking their word for it as if it's a fact is not their job.
Again, I don't see this as radically large amounts of ammunition, so in large part I agree with Snopes, but it's not really "wrong" to speculate about their motives either. Just opinion.
Personally I think they have probably decided to step up security and/or training of their armed personnel and given some disgruntled lunatic driving their truck through the front windows. So I don't fully accept "routine" but I don't accept apocalypse either. I don't think that's contrary to the facts, just not believing the press statements 100% either.
So, 1) I hope they are smart enough to be stepping up security, that's just smart, and 2) Snopes needs to not report press statements as "facts" just as much as you can't report speculations about their motives as facts. The ammo orders are factual, and I think Snopes does need to report the press statements, just not necessarily draw a conclusion.
I sure hope they're sending these guys to the range. A lot of such security/agents are woefully undertrained in firearm use. If that's what the ammo is for then that's awesome.
PS I do think the orginal cite NOT including the statements that Snopes did IS misleading, so the link to Snopes has a lot of value here, even if one were to disagree with their summary of the data.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
Now if they were ordering claymore mines (for those never in the military it looks some what like a small speaker box, has prongs that you stick in the ground, kind of 1/4 moon shaped, high explosive loaded with steel ball bearings, wired and triger detonated. Alway make sure pointed in the right direction), RPGs, sand bags and razor wire we might be a little/lot more concerned. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut just ordering the ammo does sound a small alarm bell. Of course we can all just stick our heads in the sand and act like everything is just hunky-torry aka alright.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
Looks like a lot bigger scope. Something major appears to be about to happen:
DHS Purchases 200 Million More Rounds of Ammunition
http://www.infowars.com/dhs-purchase...of-ammunition/
Following controversy over its purchase of around 1.2 billion bullets in the last six months alone, the Department of Homeland Security has put out a new solicitation for over 200 million more rounds of ammunition, some of which are designated to be used by snipers.
A series of new solicitations posted on the FedBizOpps website show that the DHS is looking to purchase 200 million rounds of .223 rifle ammunition over the next four years, as well as 176,000 rounds of .308 caliber 168 grain hollow point boat tail (HPBT) rounds in addition to 25,000 rounds of blank .308 caliber bullets.
As James Smith over at the Prepper Podcast website highlights, “It is the type of ammunition and not necessarily the quantity that is troubling.”
Smith points out that the DHS’ acquisition of .308 rounds is of concern because they are set to be used by well-trained snipers.
Cool as a rule, but sometimes bad is bad.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
How much of it do you think is being sent to other countries? And that type isn't for target practice.
Those boat tail bullets will tear something up inside, that is what I used to deer hunt with, .270 boat tail. Small entry, often no exit, but the insides are blown apart

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
The article indicates they're to be used domestically.
The mainstream media responded to the controversy by focusing on a purchase of 174,000 bullets by the Social Security Administration while completely ignoring the fact that the DHS had purchased well over a billion rounds.
Although the Associated Press and other media outlets dismissed concerns over the federal government purchasing large quantities of ammunition as paranoia, the fact that the DHS is preparing for civil unrest cannot be denied.
Having recently acquired riot gear, the DHS also purchased a number of bullet-proof checkpoint booths that include ‘stop and go’ lights.
Last year, Department of Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano directed ICE to prepare for a mass influx of immigrants into the United States, calling for the plan to deal with the “shelter” and “processing” of large numbers of people.
The U.S. Army has also been preparing for domestic disorder.
A recently leaked US Army Military Police training manual for “Civil Disturbance Operations” outlines how military assets are to be used domestically to quell riots, confiscate firearms and even kill Americans on U.S. soil during mass civil unrest.
On page 20 of the manual, rules regarding the use of “deadly force” in confronting “dissidents” are made disturbingly clear with the directive that a, “Warning shot will not be fired.”
The manual includes lists of weapons to be used against “rioters” or “demonstrators,” including “antiriot grenades.” It also advises troops to carry their guns in the “safe port arms” stance, a psychological tactic aimed at “making a show of force before rioters.” Non-lethal weapons and water cannons are also included.Cool as a rule, but sometimes bad is bad.

Re: Social Security buys a bunch of bullets.
Holy Cow.
Another thing is to pull lead off the market for the hunting and shooting industry by tying up everything for the government. If you remembe state senator Obama wanted to raise taxes on ammo knowing he couldn't stop the sale of guns, so if you raise the price so high that guys like me can't afford it any longer, we stop hunting, stop shooting for enjoyment.
