As a champions champion, the young Cats must excel at multiple facets of the game.

There is a lot of discussion pertaining to how high scoring the upcoming version of Wildcats will be. I'm as concerned as to what we can hold our opponents to scoring wise, among other important stats that help define a champion.

Here is a list of the top twenty scoring teams from last season.

1 Iona 80.4
2 Northwestern St. 80.0
3 Iowa St. 79.4
4 LIU Brooklyn 78.7
5 Indiana 78.6
6 VMI 78.2
7 Houston 78.1
8 Detroit 77.8
9 North Carolina St. 77.4
10 Ole Miss 77.2
11 Duke 77.2
12 BYU 77.1
13 Gonzaga 77.0
14 VCU 76.9
15 Belmont 76.8
16 North Carolina 76.7
17 Cal St. Fullerton 76.6
18 East Carolina 76.5
19 Central Ark. 76.5
20 Missouri 76.1

Here's a link to what UK did stat wise the year before, while headed for #8..

Notice the Davis, MKG led Wildcat team was 15th in the nation scoring wise. Good, but not dominant in that one area.

Game management down the stretch no matter what is thrown at you and consistent effort will be rewarded but we will have to excel at a lot of things to make possible what many foresee Coach Cal's star studded line up accomplishing.
Taking care of the ball, rebounding, free throw percentage, clean play,( as in not fouling needlessly) and consistency in those and other areas will be what separates, and hopefully defines our team as one of the "Greats".

Like the heralded 1996 Cats, we have the quality depth..we have the star power..and we have the potential to be "Great"
Will we apply ourselves as a team to becoming such through hard work, or will we expect it to come to us just because national accolades indicate we are worthy of the hype?

This is Coach Calipari's task. And no one is better at molding a young team and developing raw potential in record time.

This could be fun!
