Quarterback Partcipation Might Take a Turn

Since Patrick Towles has gotten healthy in a scrpted manner he has been used in the games. Joker Phillips has felt the need to play Towles perhaps to give them a better chance to stretch the field. He said that's the only guaranteed way of making sure they get him in the game. Phillips said they have made that mistake with running back Dayshun Mobley's playing time. Yesterday the coach said he would continue that pattern in the Vandy game Saturday.
Today there was a hint that might change by Saturday. Today Sanders was asked what he saw in the film of the Missouri game that he could point out that went wrong. "I people showed up in the stands," Sanders was quick to say. "Once you get in a game in that type of environment and your are really, really not prepared things happen fast. I think he is trying to get prepared, I think he's working hard to get prepared." Sanders alluded to the fact he has had only six practices with the number one unit. "I think once he got there things started happen fast for him, he kind of forgot everything he knew and he reverted back to what he's always done. That was the big thing I told on the sideline. If you want to play quarterback in college you have to play like a college quarterback. The thing you did in high school is not going to work in college." Asked how common is that among freshmen? He quickly said it's common among everyone. "Until you've played a lot of ball it's chaos and you revert back to your training and if your training hasn't been enough you revert back to your training and you do things right everytime you revert back (high school)."
He was asked if they had it to do over would they as coaches have done it different and would they rely more on the game flow. "We'll figure the quarterback plan as the week goes on." He said things were going along pretty well and when we put Patrick in and things didn't go well they were never able to re-capture the momentum. He wouldn't put all the blame in the Towles and themselves but he said it was the entire team. Sanders jokingly said that ultimately Joker is the one with the comma in his salary and he will make the decision. But seriously, he said they will sat down with input from other coaches and decide on a position they will take on the play of their quarterbacks. Sanders said in hindsight they probably should have gotten Newton into the game.
