  • Kenny Payne Facing a Thoughtful Decision

The latest development facing UK Assistant coach Kenny Payne is an offer from the New York Knicks-(erbockers). Kenny Payne has formed a reputation as the UK assistant working primarily with the big men.

As college jobs go an assistant at Kentucky is the top of the line and especially having John Calipari as his head coach. Barring anything catastrophic Payne can spend his time at UK as long as he wants.

Seemingly, there's never a time Payne doesn't have a smile on his face. And when he sits in for Calipari either at a pre-game or post-game presser, he handles himself extremely well.

About a year ago John Clay, Kyle Tucker, and myself were leaving a pre-game presser so impressed prompting a conversation as to why he didn't have his own program. Was it he hadn't been offered, he hadn't pursued, or been pushed for a job.

If he took the job, Payne would be working with hard-nosed Head Coach Tom Thibodeau.

New York is a tough place when you are losing but would be a dream if suddenly they became a winner. The Knicks owner James Dolan doesn't have a glowing reputation but Payne can get along with anyone. By the way Dolan has tested positive for Covid-19.

So, we will be made cognizant of Payne's decision shortly.
