I weighed on my Renpho scales this morning after breakfast, which is not normally when I do it. But I've been eating terribly for a long time, and have also had a lot of salty food lately, which often creates temporary weight gain from retention of fluids.
Anyway, I was 226.0 this morning. Last time I weighed it was 218.8. The app on my phone that it syncs to asked me if I was sure I was the right person, or something like that, because it said I had gained so much weight. Great. Now I have phone apps chastisting me.
Ran 2.3 miles at lunch today instead of eating in 88 degree temperature, and felt a ton hotter. Funny how being so overweight and running in the sun don't go so well together.

3 miles today, 90°. I pretty much walked the last mile. I like heat and sweat, but I am mindful of age and condition right now.
Oh, and I weighed 223.2 this morning. Yesterday's weighing was just off.
3.04 miles, 91°, 14 pounds of sweat. Managed to "run" all of it today, though. Had plenty of hills, but not as abusive as the route I took last week.
2.76 miles. Fell when changing from pavement to grass to pavement again due to the presence of vehicles. In emergency room with a messed up thumb. Great.
90 minutes since xray and nobody has been in.
Thumb back in place. New xrays needed.

Just kidding on thumb back in place. Radiologist disagreed and doctor just finished doing it again.

Change of plans. Doctor didn't get it 2nd time, so hand surgeon will try in the morning. If he can't, then OR tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks. Waiting on the surgery now at Brookwood Hospital. Surgeon has gone above and beyond squeezing me in today, called me at 6:30 and gave me his cell phone number about any questions, had his partner in the office "see" me this morning so I could get in to the hospital, and entire staff terrific. Hope the surgery goes half as well.
Prayers for you and the surgeon.

So, here are the basics as my nerve block starts to wear off. Until then, my left arm has been completely numb and paralyzed, which has negated any pain. You may hear me screaming all the way to Lexington in the next couple of hours as it completely wears off.
Through a series of events, I got the hand surgeon I wanted to do my surgery yesterday. They went above and beyond the Call of Duty and trying to help me, calling well after hours Wednesday night, exchanging X-rays, and having one hand surgeon from one group talk to another hand surgeon from another group and greasing the skids for me.
The surgeon called me at 6:30 yesterday morning, and gave me his cell number, gave me the cell number of his assistant at his office, and told me how we would make this work. I made an appointment by showing up at his office at 8:30, and theoretically seeing a doctor who pre-approved the surgery. Of course, I never saw the doctor, since that was already done. I went immediately to the hospital, for all the preliminaries, and he just work me in at the end of his surgeries.
He relocated my thumb, which he said was not too difficult, placed a large pin in a fracture at the bottom of my thumb which will have to be removed later, and repaired torn ligaments in the thumb. He left the smaller fracture at the tip of the thumb alone, thinking it would fuse and heal by itself, because there was good circulation there, and a greater risk of infection to have to deal with it as well.
As far as the accident was concerned, I think it was a perfect storm. I was at or near the end of my three mile run, which at near 90 degree temperatures is a lot for me in my condition. So I was tired at that point. I had moved to a yard for the first time in the run, which I almost never have to do, but there was a UPS truck and another car coming at a same time in opposite lanes. Better safe than sorry, right?
It was fine running in the yard, for about half the yard, which was a corner house. To complete my run, I needed to turn left down a road, run to the end of that road, turn around and return home. Very short, maybe a quarter of a mile at most. As I made the turn, I then started to enter onto the pavement again. At that point, I fell. I don't recall even tripping, just falling. Looking at my shoe later, I see that the tip of the sole came loose. I don't know if that came loose while I was running and it caught a tree root, limb, or something else, or if when I fell I damaged the shoe itself. I am told that running shoes are good for 300 to 500 miles, and I had recorded 260 miles of running on that set of shoes, while recognizing I probably missed some, and also occasionally wearing them out. In any event, they have served their time.
So was it fatigue? Moving from a yard to asphalt? The change of altitude of a couple of inches? Equipment failure? Or some combination of all of the above? I don't really know, but it is very disappointing to have a relatively simple fall and have all of this commotion occur.

I have started back running. 3.34 miles today in 90 degree weather. Super slow, super careful, and either my new shoes or ones that are pretty new.
I’m just getting back on the torture machine. I’m at 1.5 miles in around 17 minutes....

Darrell, just saw this thread. Who was surgeon? I had great success with Brookwood with my hand surgery a number of years ago. Shattered my wrist. 7 fractures. 5 pins. They did a terrific job. Good luck to you!
