I thought the Dodgers would be at the top by now. Added talent but is it driven? I think St Louis is the most dangerous wild card. Crazy scheduling for the first round. 1-seeds play on the road to start the 5-game series.
Cool as a rule, but sometimes bad is bad.

Agreed, but there is buzz that Carp may try to come back. Probably won't have time to get back into starting rotation, but if they can get some help in the bullpen from Carp, that would be great.

Im hoping they have another run in them like last year.

2011 was a great year for this fan. St Louis wins the World Series and UK wins the National Title. Let's do it again in 2012!

He is, arm needs rest, but if Carp can come back even for a few starts and give this team a lift, watch out. Need Beltran to get rested and healed and get his bat back.
With all that is wrong, we are still in it.

Re: National League Wild Card Standings

A couple of weeks ago, I was watching the Reds and the Cardinals playing and the color guy on the broadcast kept saying that St. Louis would catch the Reds. At the time the Reds were battling Washington for having the best record in baseball, while St. Louis was something like 7 games back in the Central. They're 8.5 back now.

The cards might slip into the second spot but with Furcal out with an injury, Beltran still hurting, Berkman is limited to pinchhitting, and Lynn looking like his arm is tired and maybe Wainwright hitting the wall after coming back from surgery, I now don't think they will go far if past the first playoff game.

I'll be shocked if StL gets to the post season this year. It seems like it's been a band-aid operation all year. I'm hoping they can get there but I just don't feel it.

I have to agree and mirror your thoughts.

If they could have stayed healthy, but it didn't happen.

Re: National League Wild Card Standings

The Reds just need Votto to get back to "himself", get the rest of the lineup, as it has changed to accommodate Joey's return, back on track (i.e., theoretically his presence yields better pitches for others who bat near his slot), and smooth out what has been an inconsistent rotation lately. Hell, even Chapman hit a brick wall last night against the bottom of the order... an ASTROS order.

Ya never know what will happen once the postseason starts. I believe ANY of the wild card teams are capable of upsetting a Nationals, Reds, or Rangers.

I am hoping that the Reds and other small market and/or rarely there teams make as much of an impact as possible. Otherwise baseball can become a big snooze-fest for me in the postseason, rooting against the likes of the Yankees, Cards, and other usual suspects.

In any event, the wild card race should be pretty good, especially in the NL.

Re: National League Wild Card Standings

Well, after another stellar performance by the contenders, it seems NOBODY wants the last spot!! It looks like the Braves have sewed up one spot, but with my Dodgers losing 6 out of their last 7, the Pirates losing 6 in a row, and the Cards losing 11 out of their last 15, they've all let the Phillies and DBacks into the mix.

LA - ST Louis 4 game set starting tomorrow night might just give us a winner. GO DODGER BLUE!!!

I was thinking about that the other day. It's almost ridiculous... could the wild card teams end up being "least bad" of the bunch instead of deserving playoff teams? Further, if it continues to play out like that, will it be a fair criticism of the new "extra wild card team" idea?

I do think you are right about the Cards/Dodgers series being huge for how the postseason shapes up.

Who cares about the wild card? The Reds' magic number is down to 8 with the sweep over the Pirates. 30 games over .500!

Re: National League Wild Card Standings

Darrell, I have just about lost hope for the Cars this year. w/o Furcal we are much weaker, and with Beltran hurting, it takes away power and rbi's. imo, Wainright should have been on a pitch count this year and I believe his arm is getting tired. The last two L's have been about defensive errors, take away the unearned runs and we win both games and right now we cannot afford those L's. Even if we slip into the 2nd playoff spot, I don't think we get far, we are a weakened team right now. No Berkman, no furcal, no Beltran and a weak mid innings pen.

And Mick, the Cards have never been Knights team, he was friends with the liberal Larussa which I never understood because Larussa was an animal rights activists that was anti hunting. Tells you alot about Knight

Well, I love my Cardinals, warts and all, but I think you're very realistic, Jazy. Don't see lightning in a bottle happening, and right now, I'd put the odds of us even making Wild Card at less than 50-50, the way we're playing.

Darrell, Arizona is 71-72 after yesterday's win over the Dodgers, moving them to 4 games back. I wouldn't sleep on the Diamondbacks with 12 home games left and only 7 away. Their remaining schedule might give them a boost--they have 3 at home and 3 away with the Giants, but the rest of it is 3 games at home against the Padres, 3 more at home against the Cubs, and 3 home and 4 away against the Rockies.

One thing is for sure....if my Dodger Blue is gonna make the playoffs, they are going to earn it!! With 19 games left, they've got 4 against St Louis and 3 against San Francisco at home, and 3 each with the Reds and Nationals on the road. Throw in a 3 at home against the Rockies and a 3 game trip to San Diego, and we've probably got the toughest schedule left!! LETS GO DODGERS!!!!

Cards win their 3rd straight tonight, 5-0 behind Lance Lynn 16th win of the season.

Yadier Molina's 151 hits marks the first time a Cardinals catcher has had 150 hits or more in a season since Ted Simmons (1977).

Beltran 29, Holliday 27, Craig 21, Freese 20, Molina 20. First time in STLCards history five different players have 20+ HR.

Cards will surpass 3 million in season attendance this week for 9th straight season & 16th in history.
