Re: National League Wild Card Standings
He's done the Rebels proud this year, Jazy. Saw him pitch at Ole Miss, was in league when David Price was in for Vandy. With Price & Lynn, SEC batters didn't put the bat on the ball much. My memories fading, but I think I saw him in the SEC tournament a couple of times. Don't hold me to it.

Re: National League Wild Card Standings
Good part of the season I did the same thing. Just recently started to get interested again. Still think it's a pipe dream that we'll do anything, but really, I didn't think we'd do it last year, either. Ya never know. Get Carpenter back, who knows? I don't expect to see Chris Carpenter, the ace, but just being back ought to be a shot of extra morale for the Cards.

Re: National League Wild Card Standings
Milwaukee's streaking and starting to look like the Cardinals' chief competition for the second wildcard. Meanwhile, the Reds' magic number is down to 3.
Darrell, Arizona is still 4.5 back, having won 3 in a row and 6 of their last ten.Last edited by Catfan73; 09-20-2012 at 07:58 AM.

Who would y'all St. Louie fans rather play? Washington or Cincinnati?

Re: National League Wild Card Standings
The Reds moved into a tie with Washington pending the Nationals' game tonight with LA. The Reds are 6-6 vs. St. Louis this year, but 5-1 vs. the Braves. I know who I would be rooting for in a Cardinals-Braves game if the Reds beat out the Nationals for best record. If not, they're 4-3 vs. San Fran.

Cards win 6 to 3 today over the Cubs. They hold a 2.5 game lead over the hot Brewers in the wild card.

Re: National League Wild Card Standings
Last year the Redbirds went 90-72. They will be off that pace slightly, but seem to be getting a little stronger towards the end of the season.

Re: National League Wild Card Standings
IMO, the only way the Cards don't make the wild card game is a ridiculous meltdown that would include a season-ending sweep by the Reds in St. Louis AND a Brewers or Dodgers team suddenly dominating every aspect of their remaining games. IMO, that combo ain't happening.
Now that we have that out of the way, how easy do you Cards fans think it will be for St. Louis to be the FIRST team to win a game in 24 (25?) starts for the Braves' Kris Medlen?
Not being obnoxious, just curious what y'all think of that potential problem. I know Carpenter is back, Lohse and Lynn have been excellent, and the staff, in general, has been good lately, but that ONE game thing has gotta make ya a little nervous, correct?

Re: National League Wild Card Standings
That's the obvious problem with a one game playoff. The Reds won 96 games in '99, but so did the Mets, who beat Cincy in a one game playoff. A 96-66 season down the drain in one game.
I think within a couple of years the wildcard matchup will expand to at least a best of 3 series. The World Series doesn't end until Halloween anyway, what's a couple of extra days?
P.S.--The Reds are trailing the Brewers 1-0 in the middle of the 8th.Last edited by Catfan73; 09-27-2012 at 01:49 PM.

Re: National League Wild Card Standings
EXACTLY, CF73, what I said, out loud no less, LOL, the first time I heard that this ridiculous "2nd Wild Card team" forcing the BETTER wild card team to potentially lose out on what they worked all year for in JUST ONE GAME.
Sometimes I wonder if the suits that run major sports have their ties on so tight that it strangles the blood flow to their heads.
Goodell certainly has that problem, but Selig is dang close.

Re: National League Wild Card Standings
Still 1-0, Reds last at-bat coming up--middle of the order.
Frazier homered, tied up 1-1. Bruce coming to bat.
Bruce singled to left then Navarro tripled to knock him in. Reds win 2-1! Cards fans can breathe a little easier.Last edited by Catfan73; 09-27-2012 at 02:28 PM.

Cards lose and my Dodger Blue win tonight to pull within 3 games. 6 left for each...all at home. Cards hosting Washington and Cincy...LA hosting Colorado and San Fran.

I've never been this concerned about having a 3-game lead with 6 to play as I am this year, lfbj00.
