“Before I leave I’d like to see our politics begin to return to the purposes and practices that distinguish our history from the history of other nations,
“I would like to see us recover our sense that we are more alike than different. We are citizens of a republic made of shared ideals forged in a new world to replace the tribal enmities that tormented the old one. Even in times of political turmoil such as these, we share that awesome heritage and the responsibility to embrace it.”

Supercilious, adjective. Behaving or looking as though one thinks one is superior to others.

Sasquatch tried to warn the supercilious poodle about the broken tree limb it was about to run into but when he yelled Duck! it just stuck its nose ever higher in the air.

Holistic, adjective. Characterized by the belief that the parts of something are interconnected and can be explained only by reference to the whole.

Sasquatch watched the vultures squabble over some roadkill as he munched on his pine nuts. That part of Mother Nature’s holistic approach is something I could live without, he thought to himself.

    Ubiquitous (adjective)

Another really useful word that isn’t common is ubiquitous. It means something that is everywhere at the same time.

Smeagol could not avoid the scent of the dwarfs in the mines of Moria.

Occultation, noun. An event that occurs when one object is hidden from the observer by another object that passes between them.

In Sasquatch’s neck of the woods, the eclipse wouldn’t quite be a full occultation. He still planned however to take advantage of the daytime darkness to score some oatmeal cream pies from the corner store.

Subterfuge, noun. Deceit used in order to achieve one's goal.

It bothered Sasquatch a little that he had to resort to subterfuge to get a little peace and quiet but those darn cryptozoologists followed his every footstep. “Let’s see them find me in the Ozarks,” he thought to himself.

Angst, noun. A feeling of deep anxiety or dread, typically an unfocused one….

Sasquatch knew his angst over the closing of his favorite Hawaiian shaved ice hut was irrational since a brand new one had opened across the street, but he couldn’t help it just the same.

Petrichor, noun. A pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather.

Sasquatch always enjoyed the petrichor of a brief shower but too much rain just made it smell like earthworms and wet Bigfoot.

Vitreous, adjective. Like glass in appearance or physical properties.

Sasquatch chipped away at the chunk of the vitreous obsidian, trying to make an arrowhead. He finally gave up and went to Cabela’s.
