    Phillippines 7.1 Earthquake

Suncat I hope your family is OK. Quake hit Luzon, and I can not remember where your relatives live.

Thanks, dan_bgblue! Most of the family lives near Olongapo City, and in & around Manila. But she does have a cousin that lives in the immediate area that suffered most of the damage, and apparently they have suffered really bad damage to their home. Still getting details from the relatives in Australia, so when I know more I'll update.

7.1 is more serious than I ever want to encounter. Best wishes to your wife's family and all of those affected.

    Re: Phillippines 7.1 Earthquake

A quick update on the family situation in the Philippines: the Boss says that it is her cousin's brother-in-law whose house was damaged. Apparently the damage is significant, so along with my B-I-L's in Australia we sent money to help with the repairs. Damage aside, thankfully no one was hurt and all family members are accounted for.

I hope that I am never on the receiving end of a 7.1 magnitude earthquake. I have experienced mild tremors before, and hope to never experience anything even close to a 7.1 on the Richter scale.

I remember the 5.2 that was centered in Bath Co. KY back about 40 years ago. I can’t imagine a 7.1. Very disconcerting.
