"I have made the very difficult decision to part with...."
"It was a difficult decision, but the time has come for us to sell..."
"We have made the tough choice to sell..."
"After much thought and prayer, we have decided to sell..."
I'm kinda looking, not really looking but sorta, at some Class B RVs for sale. It seems like every time I see one of them for sale with that prefaced, they're about 20% higher than any other similar RV.
I have sort of reached the point where if I see that, I just skip the ad and go on to the next one. If they're being honest, that it's a tough, emotional decision for them to sell, then they're not thinking in terms of fair market value for the sale, but they are artificially constructing a price to *their* emotional attachment. I'm not willing to pay for their emotional attachment.
It reminds me of the many potential clients who have wanted me to represent them on a contingency fee basis, and then tell me "it's not the money, it's the principle." When I ask them how much they'll pay me to represent their principles, it becomes the money lol.
