I don't go to backslapping self-aggrandizing conferences for auctioneers, not sure why I'd want to watch them for any other industry either.

They've always been full of themselves, and now it seems it is over the top, but I don't intend to find out for sure.

No freebies at our conventions. I worked them for years selling software, don't plan on ever going to one as an auctioneer. They're like Realtors, the only ones that go by and large are the ones who aren't busy enough with real work, and sitting around telling stories about the industry in hotel bars just doesn't sound like fun.

For Auctioneers we also have bid calling contests, where you call items and judges vote on the best bid caller. Some of them are in fact really good, but in a world of online sales it's becoming a lost, and unnecessary, art.
