In all Honesty, I may be getting a lot of hours back, and saving money...
I am pretty much done with NFL. MLB. NBA for a while. and now may be losing UK sports of football and basketball.
I do not want my sports to be political. So. may be goodbye.
I am fine that the athletes have a position and opinion. I am not fine with them using the name of UK to make their platform for their position.
Sorry, that is my feelings.

Can't disagree. Like I posted on the other thread on the main board, I follow sports to escape from the stresses of the real world. To the extent those things show up in sports I'm less inclined to be involved.
Some of that may be how I feel about a given position, but mostly it's just having any position at all. I always cringed at Pitino or Cal or anyone being present if a politician came to town simply b/c I don't want one in the other.
So I'm with you by and large. That plus the turnstile roster for basketball has just taken some air out of the balloon. I'm glad the kids do well, but I just don't have the connection to them I once did.
As for non-UK sports I never followed them much, but I'm very much done with them. I'd catch some NBA if a UK guy was on or was a special game, but not now. I don't care to be lectured to by hypocrites who tell me I have to believe X or Y and then throw that in the trash if it mess up their multi-million dollar incomes.Last edited by CitizenBBN; 09-01-2020 at 08:52 PM.

I am still searching for this cause they keep talking about, these athletes have a voice and need to be heard.
Wish just one of these super black athletes would start a program to help eliminate the inner city gangs and place an emphasis on education so they can achieve everything they desire.

Re: In all Honesty, I may be getting a lot of hours back, and saving money...
I don't doubt there are issues with law enforcement. If Senator Scott says there are then I believe him even if I didn't believe anyone else, but yes it seems disingenuous to react to that problem on the scale we are seeing when it's obvious many other issues face minority communities including a lot more young men and innocent people dying than are ever caused by police actions.
Puma made a great post on the other board I hope to revisit here, which pointed out that many in the minority community feel that these police crimes are the ones that are un-prosecuted, but I can't accept that as a complete explanation.
How can someone who cares about Americans generally, and minority issues in particular, not be outraged at 15-20 dying every weekend in Chicago? first, the vast majority of those cases are in fact never prosecuted, just like police wrongdoing, so I don't think its just about the guilty going free.
But also how can people not be outraged at a do-nothing Chicago administration that has let this continue unabated under numerous mayors? How are they not outraged at the horrible education? The lack of jobs?
No, their solution is to riot in those parts of Chicago, destroy the few business who ventured there, and make it nearly impossible to get more to come.
No, if this outrage was really about equality I would think they would demand equal education, equal access to the economy. These kids at UK now came from those communities in large part. They may know of police mistreatment, no argument, but surely the also know of poor schools, unemployment, and of course drug and other crime running relatively unabated.
Are they demanding police reforms? Improved policing to make these areas safe? More money to law enforcement, with the training, to help make the area safe and encourage businesses?
Nope. They want to cut back on law enforcement in those neighborhoods, some saying completely defunding them.
I also know this movement has been hijacked by radicals. Antifa and other socialist/communist groups, etc. but BLM has made little effort to separate themselves from those groups and forces, and have called for a lot more than peaceful change. So I don't think these kids necessarily support those radical elements, but unfortunately embracing "BLM" gives them more power to move to these radical positions.
So I won't hold it against these kids or other kids, but I also know they are very wrong to focus on just this issue and ignore the obvious huge issues that need to be addressed, both racial and otherwise.
since the national political movement has translated these issues not into reform but into a radical socialist/communist agenda then, and this will sound bad, I see most of these supporters as "useful idiots" in the meaning ascribed to Lenin but actually coined by Ludwig Misis. They mean well, but those who take advantage of their support do not.
And so while these kids do not directly offend me, the fact that I can't watch sports and get away from politics does, so I'll watch less.People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

Loving Colombo. Watched To Have and Have Not, Big Sleep and a few older movies. Star Wars is taking up more free time. Family stress (aging loved ones) has overtaken Duke and K's recruiting efforts as my biggest concern.
Have not had any concerns with the UK football team yet. Stoops presented the brief walkout as a full team decision. One practice, I am ok with it.
The UK basketball video didn't bother me. I was struck at how I didn't recognize anyone.
With Keion Brooks cutting his hair, he was hard to recognize to me. Just from a connection to UK Basketball, I feel separate from the guys.
My biggest concern is a protest during a game or a refusal to practice or play in Rupp. That is a deal breaker to me. Rupp was not Klan. He was not a avowed segregationist. A American of German descent, Rupp would not have been caught dead marching with Nazis. How can any American?
But if the team, 12 or 13 guys who won't be on campus for 12 months, opposes the name of Rupp, the key singular individual for establishing Kentucky Basketball, then I am out.

I will have to think about that. Robert Kulp is one of the returning villains (different killers of course).
I will give you a list in the next few days.

I actually am enjoying the NBA. I am able to ignore most of the political crap, turn off the post game interviews, and blot out the BLACK LIVES MATTER scolled across the court. I am able to tolerate people with differing views. Of course does not mean I like it but not going to cut off my nose to spite.my face thing. Plus I suspect 90% of the players are not aware of the true philosophy of BLM, advocating violence, etc... I support a movement against.killing people of any race whenever possible, but would never do so at the expense of advocating killing LEO's as BLM does

Doc I think a huge percentage of those who "support BLM" are supporting the abstract principle of equality, not the political entity that is now a self-described Marxist organization as extreme as Nation of Islam if not more so.
The problem is it gives more voice to that radical leadership and political entity. BLM was actually "founded" in 2013 and described itself as following the teachings of Dr. King. It has switched to a very radical strain of Malcolm X over these years.People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

Re: In all Honesty, I may be getting a lot of hours back, and saving money...
Exactly my point. As for giving more voice, probably. I wish one athlete would come out and say they do not support the violence and vitriol towards all police officers. The bad ones? Sure but they are the minority, just like the minority of African Americans are criminals...and villifying them all is the same as lumping all African Americans as gangsta's and thugs

Re: In all Honesty, I may be getting a lot of hours back, and saving money...
And thus we see the brilliance of the Left. They are masters at the use of language to describe positions, esp. in order to paint the opposition as evil.
If you don't support "Black Lives Matter" then you are by inference saying they don't matter, at least as the language works in the human brain. That's why North Korea is the People's Democratic Republic of NK, not the Fascist Dictatorship of NK.
The very term "progressive" to define a leftist is a clever use. What's so progressive about socialism and communism, failed ideologies that are now quite dated and completely disproven? But the implication is if you are against their views you aren't progressive. The very use of the word casts a shadow on any opposition.
Who doesn't think black lives or any lives matter? Almost no one. Yet the very use of the wording implies you don't if you don't support them.
now, it should only work on the very weak minded, like a bunch of modern day Brown Shirts calling themselves "Anti Fascist" while of course being the absolute definition of fascism, but it works.People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

Interesting question and one I had not pondered. Can you truly be free if you are not equal.
Equality does not mean all have the same things and resources. It means you have the same opportunities to excel available.
That is one thing I do not know we will all agree upon. I am vehemently opposed to any type of reparations for any citizen. But they are going to argue they cannot be equal because they are so far behind... But so was every immigrant that historically arrived in the US.

Bingo! Equal opportunity is what everyone should have access to gaining. The problem with a portion of the left is they want equal outcome. Not all, not even a majority, but a very loud minority. On the flip side, there is a powerful minority of the right that doesn’t want the equal opportunity for all either.
I’m reminded of that George Carlin quote, “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.”
To me, there a a good portion of the right, and and even bigger portion of the left that want the status quo back on this election cycle. Hence Biden being the Democratic candidate.
