I watched a network version of Top Gun last weekend. Man, was it good. So good.

Re: You can only pick three...
Easy for me
Caddyshack
The Terminator
Weird Science
I will say the Breakfast Club is a seminal piece of 1980s film, but I can't watch it 20 times. I can watch Caddyshack once a week.
There's 5-6 more on there I really like, but Caddyshack and Terminator stand out for me big time.Last edited by CitizenBBN; 05-21-2020 at 09:25 PM.

Caddyshack has gotta be # 1.

Re: You can only pick three...
1. I'm going to limit myself to 1 Eddie Murphy movie, and it's hard to pick among those on the list. (I might also throw 48 Hrs with Nick Nolte in there for consideration.) I think I'd pick Coming to America today, but if you ask me tomorrow I might pick one of the others. The barber shop scenes alone make this a keeper.
2. Caddyshack--top 5 all-time comedy for me
3. Die Hard--rewrote the action movie genre, still holds up today
As a guy who joined the Navy in the 80s, it's hard not to put Top Gun on that list, but the others are too good to leave off.U really think players are going to duke without being paid over Kentucky?--Gilbert Arenas, 9/12/19

Re: You can only pick three...
Hard to pick just 3, the 80’s produced a lot of great movies and you just want to watch over and over.

Re: You can only pick three...
Oh, just hit me, there's a HUGE one missing from that list, b/c it was released in 1980, and IMO MUST be on that list, and is on my #3, booting Weird Science.
The Blues Brothers.People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

You can only pick three...
Great catch. I checked to see if it came out in 1979, but it was summer, 1980.
Blues Brothers even beats out Caddyshack for me, and that speaks volumes.
Crap. Got even tougher.
My revised list...
Blues Brothers
Caddyshack
Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Re: You can only pick three...
Blues Brothers is one of my all time favorite movies. If I had to pick just one, it would be Blues Brothers. Then Caddyshack.
FWIW another of my favorite movies, Tucker: A Man and His Dream, is also 1980s, but it won't beat out those others and since it's a 1940s period piece I have a hard time putting it on this list.People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

Re: You can only pick three...
Porky’s is an 80’s movie. I laughed until I cried during the Principal’s office scene.

You can only pick three...
I counted 11 titles on the list that if I were channel surfing I’d either stop and watch or hit record. Add in Porky’s and Blues Brothers, make it an even baker’s dozen.
Plus, where’s Vacation???

Home Alone in 1990 and Home Alone 2 in 1992 might make some top 3 lists. I thought they were funny

Re: You can only pick three...
Using the Blueboss scale of "I'm channel surfing on a Saturday afternoon, and I run across this movie, I stop and watch it," this is what I stop and watch.
The Breakfast Club (probably)
Weird Science (probably)
Better Off Dead (probably)
Trading Places
ET (probably)
Friday the 13th, if at night
Risky Business
Beverly Hills Cop
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
St. Elmo's Fire
The Karate Kid
Caddyshack
Ghostbusters
Stand By Me
Top Gun
[Blues Brothers--has to be on the list, so artificially including it]
[Vacation-same]
[Porky's-same]
Depending on how you count it, I'm definitely in double digits and maybe close to 20. It's a definite 10 (or 13, if you include the three additions), plus a few others. And you know, that doesn't mean if it's not on the list, I don't stop and watch it. Those were some good movies.

I know it's blasphemous in nature to say this word, but what about "Hoosiers?"
Certainly should have been included too, right?

Re: You can only pick three...
There are others I would much prefer to watch now but Terminator was very advanced special effects wise for the day, not to mention the great story line.
A big Lethal Weapon fan too.Last edited by kingcat; 05-22-2020 at 11:18 AM.
