How much is everyone shut down?

Postponing the upcoming auction schedule as of today. We do our sales online and in person so we can adapt and go online only but there are issues with that move, so we'll see.

Still showing up at work for now.
People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

Both schools where I teach have moved to online teaching.

I am informally of counsel with one firm where the local office has rejected the recommendation of the managing partner and large office in Atlanta and has remained open. But there are no visitors allowed. I have more clients to visit me because of the nature of my work than all of the rest of them put together , so it really impacts me more than anyone.

My satellite office remains open, for now. I can continue to meet with clients there, for the time being, but I understand it is getting more difficult to handle some of my smaller administrative things, like finding two witnesses and a notary for a will that I do.

What will be more interesting to me is to see if my random telephone calls dwindle, which I expect. Most of my business is referral, and I fully expect people to postpone visiting their lawyer unless it is critical.

So on the whole, I'm going to be mainly working at home, as much as I can. My problem is going to be when my son and daughter return home from their colleges. My son is usually pretty quiet, but my daughter is a Tasmanian devil and it will be difficult to ignore the whirr. Those will be the days that I take my laptop and just go to a random soccer field or someplace with my phone.

American CEO instructed field personnel (me) to conduct business via email, text, fax, telephone, online meetings and do this from home office. City and County schools are closed and kids are doing classwork from home. I have gone to a couple doctors appointments, that have nothing to do with COVID 19, in the last 2 weeks and it is obvious that lots of people are staying home.

Here our church is closed, schools are closed, libraries are closed and stores are closing earlier.

Where I work, many offices are "teleworking." It would be possible but really unwieldy to do it in the office where I work, but only if we have work phones provided to us, and I'm not holding my breath. Think about the competition for toilet paper the last few days: that's what it's like getting a work cell phone where I work.

ETA: Gyms and theaters are closing today.

Fwiw, I was on the road 7 hours today, and traffic lighter than normal. Not like traveling on Christmas Day or anything, but noticeably.

I went in to a Popeyes restaurant inside a truck stop at lunchtime, and was the only person there. Well, somebody came after me, but I walked right to the counter and got my chicken sandwich, no fighting required.

    Church is closed.

Work: classes are online only. Staff and faculty still reporting this week. Next week...not sure. Might be essential personnel only reporting. And others being available at home at a minimum.

Well, I am law enforcement, and we are still out there in the public dealing with everyone that we have to deal with.
Tuesday is the Presidential Preference Primary here in Florida. I am sure that I will see a boatload of people once the polls close and all of our precinct workers begin to filter in.
I have already spoken with my chain of command, and they have authorized me to tell people to move along after they have delivered their equipment. A lot of these people are retired and nothing else to do but stand around and talk, because, it's Florida and they're retired.
Not today, folks. Move along. Don't g away mad, just go way.
I am a couple months away from retirement, and I DO NOT want to be catching 'cooties' from any of these people.

I was going to start a "Moronic things you have seen/heard/done for COVID-19" but I'll just put it here.

We are open as normal, however "corporate" has made some suggestions

    1) sent out sheet as well as did a teleconference on how to clean. Keep in mind that this was a teleconference given by HR to doctors. Glad somebody who handles hiring and firing people can illuminate to me on how to clean!!!

    2) Corporate suggested "Facetime exams". So you put your dog in front of a camera and then I make the diagnosis. I rejected that proposal since its MY license at risk for malpractice, not theirs.

    3) Curbside drop off. Your dog getting spayed...just pull up to the curb and pass it thru the window to one of our lovely technicians. What's next, drive-thru for vaccines and fecals?

    4) My wife instituted a "social distancing" policy

I work in management at an Amazon facility. Most of the senior ops are working from home but I’m more of a “hands on” manager so I have to be here. We’re trying to stay open to help keep the supply chain open. I’ve seen where some people are claiming that Amazon is forcing employees to work but nothing could be further from the truth, encouraging employees to stay home if they feel ill with no repercussions and even paying those that can an extra $2 per hour for time worked.

I thought I saw where Amazon was actually going to be hiring more employees to help. Seem to be going above and beyond to help everyone.

They are. The thought is to provide a source of income for those displaced like servers, etc. But also I’m sure to have enough labor on hand to cover operations in the coming weeks. Right now the problem is having enough UPS drivers to get stuff to Worldport.

I work for a large Financial company - as much WFH as possible, you have to have vp approval to enter the building. We have a medical center onsite...they called me to come take all my allergy medicine home. No enhancements unless critical as we are in a state of heightened awareness. I live in Ohio...we seem to be the Washington of the East. Dewine is shutting down everything. Church is still opened for now.

    My daughter's work is expanding.

She's on the COVID-19 unit, ICU at the hospital. So there's that.

They've implemented negative pressure in all rooms, expanding the number of nurses from 6 to 8, and have acquired additional supplies. Currently have 7 patients on ventilators, though so hopefully that old curve will flatten out. Can't do much more.

She tells me with all the precautions her unit takes they'll be the safest medical personnel in the hospital. I get that, but, well, you know, I'm her Dad and all that.

I’m in management in a steel fabrication company. A good portion of our business is cathodic electrodeposition (e-coat, basically applying paint with electricity) on mostly automotive and appliance stampings, as well as castings and fabricated parts for lawn and garden, heavy trucks, and other specialty applications.

So far we’ve locked down the building to employees only. Any suppliers, customers, contractors, must have a scheduled appointment after being somewhat vetted for any health issues and travel history.

In regards to our shipping department and other deliveries, they must come in through designated docks, and overhead entrances, and drivers and delivery personnel are not allowed past designated shipping areas.

Since we do supply to a number of large auto manufacturing and appliance industry facilities, and since they all have large numbers in their workforces across multiple shifts, it is concerning.

For instance Ford’s Louisville Assembly plant has over 4100 employees most of which are hourly. Nissan Smyrna TN has over 8000 employees. GE Louisville 6000, Toyota Georgetown Ky, 10,000 plus, Subaru Lafayette IN, Honda Greenville In. are all in the same ballpark... that’s a lot folks going in and out of those buildings 5-6 days a week.

...anyway, hopefully whatever they are putting in place to keep their people safe, doesn’t include unscheduled extended shut downs.

blueboss, unfortunately I wouldn't hold my breath that they stay open. I think government officials are doing that same math and realizing that's a pretty big gathering point.

I think in another week we really may be at a standstill even for manufacturing.

Exactly, which is why I’m concerned. There is typically scheduled shut downs in and around the 4th of July for 2-3 weeks. Perhaps we’ll see the shut down in the near future and then stay on line through the 4th holiday.

I probably have enough inventory to continue for close to two weeks, and then work through a few of our stamping house suppliers inventory. I could probably go 3-4 weeks before laying people off, and going with a skeleton maintenance crew to run PM’s.

The most dire measures have been taken in Alabama.

State Stores will have limited sales. Customers will be limited to one 750 ml bottle of spirits. 5 customers at a time will be allowed in the store. you point to the bottle you want and a clerk will get it for you. You will be asked to make a card payment. If you insist on cash you must put your cash on the counter. Clerk will return same. No hand contact with the clerk.

We had no visitors last night at the Courthouse, just a few Courthouse employees and the poll workers bringing the voting machines in. That's it. Nobody else came in, which is unheard of on an election night.

With the big 3 on the verge of shutting down things will really start to get interesting in this area.
The automakers lack of production will have a huge economic impact on everyone.
Honda has ordered a shutdown until the 30th.
Ford in the Louisville area will have a major impact once they decide to holt production.
Let hope and pray these are short term shutdowns.

I work out of the house and have not really been told to do anything different in regard to meeting with customers, but they figure customers may not want to see us, which is true. If I have an install or need to go look at a project outdoors I’ve been doing that. Safe enough. My wife works for a large bank, all the managers are sitting at home and all of the tellers are still working in person. I watched her boss tell them all how much he appreciates them being on the front lines...as he did a video chat from home w his dog on his lap. My wife was like thanks, all my employees will be happy seeing that.
