I live in Birmingham, which is well-known as having one of, if not the biggest number of illegal bookmakers in the country. Everybody here knows a bookie. I've represented them, sued them, chuckled as I see them in their "other" occupation, etc. All that is to set this story up a little.

A guy I know well has a couple of bookies he uses for himself. A mutual acquaintance of ours doesn't know a bookie (really hard not to; he likely does, but doesn't know it). He enjoys gambling on all the "local" guys--Alabama football, Atlanta Braves, you name it as long as it's a "local" type team. He has my buddy place his bets for him, since he doesn't know a bookie.

Except my buddy never places his bets. Just holds them.

He's been making a killing "not" placing the bets lol.
