    Fox News

Shep Smith leaving Fox News. Really really bummed to hear this. He and Chris Wallace are/were two of the best in the business imo.

Of course, a lot of people pointing to AG Barr's meeting with Murdoch yesterday as the reason.

Btw, I think this had a lot more to do with the Tucker Carlson stuff. I think Shep doesn't like the direction all media is going.

Is going or where it is? And I agree. Real journalism is a thing of the past. Its now nothing but partisan hackery

By "a lot of people" I think you mean a lot of lunatics on twitter, the current intellectual equivalent of a trailer park. I think that's using the term "people" loosely. lol.

Seriously, social media isn't a measure of anything but the limits of American insanity. I have no idea why Smith stepped down, but like you I have to think maybe it's personal (people do retire when they get enough money) or he's just tired of the job (people retire for that reason too). Maybe part of being tired of the job is the direction of media, etc., I could see that.

Like Doc I'm not sure it's a direction we're going, I think we've arrived. In some ways Fox has actually trailed, as MSNBC is living in complete fantasy land and CNN is racing there due to ratings concerns. Fox is racing the other way, but isn't quite as far off field as the other two. Fox still has a few more middle of the road people, not sure you can find a soul at MSNBC that is in that category.

But it won't matter. the push in the main media plus the social media insanity plus the education system insanity means there won't be any more discourse and reasoning. Ellen Degeneres gets lit up for being able to even sit with Bush II despite being a staunch liberal and a lesbian. She broke the commandments of the leftist faith by being able to see an opponent as a human being, and while some applaud it many do not.
People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

Ya, I agree with all of that (well, except I think Shep left because he disagrees with Fox direction and his squabble with the opinion heads there).
Several years ago, Fox News tried to make themselves that middle of the road voice (i.e. "Fair and Balanced"). CNN beat them to that crown (at least in the public's view). Then Roger Ailes took Fox where he wanted them to go and they became the conservative giant they are today. From a business standpoint, it was brilliant. From a journalistic standpoint, it had grave consequences (and I am not blaming Fox for where we are).
The farther Fox went right, the farther CNN went left. And especially in the last few years, its just been awful. MSNBC was openly left. So they had their niche. Fox was right and had their niche. And CNN was left without an audience. So now, with the attacks of Trump, etc they have gone left.
I STILL think (and call me terribly naive) that CNN has the best shot and doing this correctly. And I should say, the news media will always gear left even if its a "fair and balanced" network....simply because its always going to be a Coastal operation.
They need to hire Shep Smith. And then they need to hire Megyn Kelly. Those would be brilliant (albeit expensive) moves. And then, they need to bring back a show where good and smart people on both sides of the aisle actually disagree. And let them debate and actually have discourse.
Fox having their "token liberals" on every now and then is embarrassing. CNN having their "token conservatives" like Corey Lewandowski's short run was even more embarrassing. There is still room for actual debate if someone would create the right platform and have the right people on it. This is possible. Shep Smith would actually be fantastic at hosting it. Or Chris Wallace were he to leave.
I still believe there is an audience for this if a network will actually have the cajones to attempt to do it. And do it correctly (which I have no faith they would).

P.S. The Ellen nonsense was just awful. Good for her for standing her ground btw.

    Re: Fox News

CNN won't change unless they fire Zucker. he hates Trump and clearly his mission is to get ratings by going Left and becoming partisan and also to simply attack Trump 24/7.

IMO the lines are drawn. It's Pulitzer v. Hearst but on a national level instead of just fighting for the New York audience.

The difference now is everyone seems to be in on it. What was just a coastal liberal bias as you described is now full on agenda driven ideology.

Sean Hannity stated in 2008 that journalism I’m the country was dead. I believe he was right.

    Re: Fox News

LOL; Shep Smith was a CNN mole. It was humorous watching him interview Judge Wolman Napolitano as they were already building the gallows for Trump. Convict him, then try him, eh Judge?

The mainstream media has always had this disdain for more than half this country. They are just way more open about it now. Fox has more "balance" in their coverage in 1 hour than MSNBC, CNN, ABC, etc does in 1 week.

So what journalists on any network (including Fox) do you consider to be "fair and balanced"?

    Re: Fox News

I don’t find any networks to be balanced. I do find that Fox will present both viewpoints....at times. Shep did present the opposing “opinion” on Fox and he did level the playing field there a good bit.
I’ve gotten to the point that I just don’t depend on networks. Whether it be YouTube or internet sites, there are other sources out there that are sans the BS

I wouldn't call any of them balanced. I do think Fox is closer to center from the right than CNN and MSNBC are now from the left, at least based on traditional 1980s through Obama era on the political scale.

Fox isn't out there promoting libertarianism or Falwell or some other version of the far right (though obviously libertarianism is really a liberal position). MSNBC and CNN are seeming to embrace open borders and pure socialism in medicine and other areas.

I don't watch the broadcast networks, maybe they are more traditional left and not as extreme.

CNN, CNBC, NBC and ABC are unwatchable. CBS is bad. I can watch Fox for about 10 minutes, but only select shows. America thirsts for balanced news. Not sure that will happen before the 2020 elections, but it will happen.

Certainly, the odds are in your favor. But when I look at Fox news hosts Arthel Neville and Harris Faulkner, I see two minority women with fairly balanced views. (Neville being more of the lib). But, I do see bothe of them attracting more non-traditional viewers to the network. I think you will see a network exec take these and a couple of more to build a better network that not only attracts viewers, but presents honest reporting.
