Cool as a rule, but sometimes bad is bad.
If you get a chance, you should check out his memoir, "But Enough About Me.". An underrated actor who bypassed some good roles to star in some movies out of loyalty to friends. RIP

I remember him when I was a kid, he played a bad guy on a Flipper episode... I always thought he was a scary guy until Smoky and The Bandit, and...

I just recently went back and got my hands on copies of some of his Southern films, Gator and White Lightning in particular. I've had Smokey and the Bandit for years, have seen it at least 50 times. Still one of my very favorite movies.
Really sorry to see him go. If I ever win the lottery you guys will know b/c I'll have a Screamin' Chicken Trans Am, preferably one from the film if I win enough.
Underrated actor due to some of the monetary chosen roles he took in the 1980s IMO, but just like a John Wayne, he also had such personal presence it really is impossible to be a character actor.
People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.
Did I ever tell you a 1978 Trans Am was the first new car I ever owned? One day I'll find it and buy another. Man, that was a great car.
I did not want the bird, though. Got a silver one, waxed that thing up and at night it was glorious.
Totaled it in a Trans Am vs Telephone Pole confrontation. Replaced it with a 1980 Z-28 Camaro. Black beauty.
Those were the days...
I watched the sale on that one. Like I said, you'll know how much I win if I buy one from him or the movie. lol.

Had to spend the evening watching Burt. Looked for Smokey and the Bandit on Netflix, but it wasn't there. Settled for Boogie Nights. Much better movie than I remember. Yeah, still has the sex and nudity, but really well done story, and Reynolds was outstanding as the director.
Enjoyed the man's career. Never took himself all that seriously

From a great ESPN article on Reynolds, his love for FSU, its football program and his teammates:
Bobby Bowden has a joke he likes to tell about his time with Reynolds that's at least partially based on a true story.
Back in the early days of Bowden's tenure at Florida State, it was still OK to bring boosters on a recruiting trip, so Bowden pitched Reynolds on a plan. There was a kid from Ohio that Bowden wanted to sign, the son in a single-parent home. So the pair flew up for a visit, with Bowden selling the kid on Florida State while Reynolds wooed the mom.
Bowden's punchline: "The kid ended up going to Notre Dame, and the mother came to Florida State."

I had a cherry, gold 67 Cuda fastback. The motor mount broke so I traded it in on a used Chevy Van.
