Cool as a rule, but sometimes bad is bad.
Having a discussion on it on the premium forum and most of us like it. La is the Pelican state so it's the state bird, and it has more to do with NO and La than Hornets.
I would have lobbied for Swamp Rats but at least Pelicans are native and they have to be tougher than the Jazz.
Love it. One of the best names I've heard.
Hey, if St. Louis University can be the Billikens, New Orleans can be the Pelicans.
It's a great name. Louisiana is the Pelican State, it is indigenous to the area, associated with New Orleans, and has that "campy, cool, quirky" kinda thing working for it. It screams New Orleans. Tom Benson makes good decisions, and dumping the generic "Hornets" name is a terrific one.
JMO, but I bet sales of merchandise will go up like crazy. I don't own any New Orleans Hornets stuff, despite being a New Orleans fan, and having Miller/Davis there. You can bet your bottom dollar I'll have a shirt and hat with New Orleans Pelicans when they come out. I won't be the only one.
(Funny, I've become even more enamored with it overnight since the name first hit--I've gone from, "I'm cool with it," to "I absolutely love it." I was helped by some people commenting on it on the Premium Board, too, with their thoughts. It really grows on you quickly.)
CBBN--how about the "New Orleans Nutria?"

I like it too. U. of Miami are the Hurricanes, but they also have Sebastian the Ibis.
