I should point out that watching 1080P video, whether disc, streaming, or live, the picture is often indistinguishable from 4k because of the up-scaling that comes with a 4K TV with HDR.

Its Blacklist night! I found I couldn't wait to binge watch the season.

I record Blacklist to watch it once and then go back and binge watch once the full season is posted on Netflix. IMO it's one of the best shows left on on regular TV. Most all of Spader's work is of high quality.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy is an excellent body of work. The Daniel Craig version was really good but the original trilogy was much more fleshed out and gave a lot more detail and depth to the story and the end is quite satisfying. (subtitled in English, originally in Swedish) Both versions are graphic in violence including rape scenes.

Last night I watched a movie I've seen several times, the first time in black & white when I was a kid, Charade. Humor, suspense, romance all mixed together quite well with Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Walter Matthau, and other well-known actors make for a really fun 2 hours.

If you have 4K, there's an app called UltraFlix (most 4k tv's have it) where you can watch it for free (with membership).

I watched the original Swedish version for a film series at our local library branch--it was fantastic.

If you're into genealogy, a new season of "Finding Your Roots" has started on PBS. They take 2-3 celebrities/episode and trace back through their family tree and do a DNA thing at the end. Episode 1 was Larry David and Bernie Sanders. Episode 2 was Christopher Walken, Fred Armisen and Carly Simon, and Episode 3 was Ted Danson, Mary Steenbergen and William H. Macy. Yeah, it's a PBS-ish type of lineup so far, but they do have some non-progressives on the show from time to time. Mrs. BEvans and I enjoy the show, as well as "Who Do You Think You Are?" which come back in the spring on TLC.

It's one of my favorite TV shows, for sure. It records to my DroidTV app, and I usually just watch it on my phone, but occasionally I'll cast it to TV. Even though each episode (usually) is a separate "show," I generally "save up" the shows and watch 2 or 3 at a time. With the commercials stripped out of it, three episodes is like a superb 2-hour movie.

Thinking about dropping Netflix. We've been customers for over 12 years, first DVD, then DVD + streaming then just streaming. Lately I haven't found much on Netflix I've wanted to watch (or watch again)--most of our online streaming has been either Hulu or Amazon Prime.

I'm looking at Instantwatcher's list of the 50 most popular Netflix shows and the list is underwhelming IMHO. I've not gotten into the Netflix original shows for the most part, although some like the Marvel shows I haven't watched. (Frankly, I feel like I'm a little on Marvel Saturation Alert. Ever since Age of Ultron I've felt like it's all too much.)

Anybody else feel that way about Netflix? Is there a reason I shouldn't reclaim that $10 into my monthly budget?

The Rveal Player endorsed by Doc is starting to look pretty good.

We use it mainly to watch old tv shows we never watched on commercial tv like Parks and Recreation and The Office.

I just read that a 4K version of The Godfather is in the work which is great news. I started watching it last night from an old blu-ray copy and it was horrible, lots of heavy snow on the screen. No word as to when the 4K version will come out yet.

I just watched a Kurt Russell movie that I did not know about until I started going through my Amazon Prime list.
It's a western, "Bone Tomahawk", made in 2015. The storyline revolves around 3 people, 2 men & a woman, who are kidnapped from a frontier western jail. Kurt Russell, his Chief Deputy, and 2 others go after them to effect a rescue, and if course, nothing goes well.
Oh, did I mention that the antagonists are cannibals?
WARNING: there is some extremely graphic violence in this movie, and this is one the kids should definitely NOT watch! If anyone chooses to watch it, you will see what I'm talking about. But again, don't watch this one around small children.
Good movie. Very violent, and definitely not something you would associate with Kurt Russell.

The cool part was when they weren't actively engaged with the savages they made a lot of goofy small talk primarily by the deputy. It was kind of charming. Great film.

I was not counting on the extremely violent content toward the end. I knew there would be some violence, but what I witnessed was very savage, indeed.
And I agree, the small talk, especially about the flea circus, was kind of funny, especially when the captive woman started talking about it so matter of factly.

I really like Bond movies (especially the early Connery ones), but for some reason I've not seen any of the Daniel Craig Bond movies. I got Casino Royale from the library and will watch it soon.

Some movies I've seen recently:

--The Hero (on Blu Ray): Interesting rumination on regret and what we do with the end of our lives. Sam Elliott is awesome in this, as are Laura Prepon and Nick Offerman.

--Home Again: Terrible even by date movie/chick flick standards. Saw it because the movie we thought we would be seeing wasn't being shown, Mrs. BEvans likes Reese Witherspoon and we could basically see it for free with MoviePass.

--Victoria and Abdul: Really enjoyed this one. Story of Queen Victoria's working relationship/friendship with an Indian servant. Dame Judy Densch was awesome.

Probably going to see the new Thor movie and Thank You For Your Service this weekend.

I think you'll really like Casino Royale, Brian.

I would put Connery and Craig pretty even overall. I would say that the Craig movies tend to be more realistic, but it was Connery who started it all and did quite well as the pioneer.

Roger Moore's version had very few fight scenes and relied more on innuendo and stunt doubles. His first three were OK but he did four more after that and they were IMO terrible.

Pierce Brosnan, see Roger Moore. Same pattern, though thankfully fewer.

My brother turned me on to Bond movies when I was about 8, I think, and I haven't missed any unless you count the last 3 Moore versions when I fell asleep. (Could owe to the fact I'd been working night shifts) My dates were very understanding.

Reese Witherspoon did a movie called Wild which I found to be a pretty good adventure type. She does some serious hiking.
