All Things Video Thread (Movie or TV)

Normally the genre not my thing but it has really high ratings.

Re: Anyone seen Guardians of the Galaxy?

Not the new one but I really liked the first. Seen it maybe five times. I like the comedic aspect of an outrageous sci-fi flic, and there are some funny moments.

First is really fun. Second is alright. Soundtrack is great in both films.

Important spoiler, if you have lost relative, especially to cancer, the opening of the first film is a little tough. But then it is a fun advernture story that I recommend to anyone.

I've seen them both; they're pretty entertaining, much more so than your average Marvel characters movie imo.

The 1st one. It was really really good, but not as good as the hype to me. One of those deals where it probably could not live up to my expectations. With that said, I'll watch the next one when it comes out on DVD. Marvel has it figured out.

Re: Anyone seen Guardians of the Galaxy?

Do the two stand alone or do you have to watch the first to know whats going on in II?

The reason I ask is the 2nd is coming out in 4K and it's Disney's first venture in doing so. I don't want to buy the first if it's going to get an upgrade. I don't buy anything unless I feel like it's something I'll watch several times. Sounds like that will be the case with these.

Thanks for helping me out on this.

I think you could see GoG 2 without having seen the 1st, but the 1st one is a really good movie--my 2nd favorite Marvel movie behind only the original Iron Man.

#1 has an IMDb rating of 8.1 while #2's rating is 7.9. Relatively speaking with regard to all titles those are impressive numbers. (1 to 10 scale)

^Yep--and FWIW, the original GoG got 91% on Rotten Tomatoes and the 2nd one got 82%. Both highly rated.

I went on a Dirty Harry binge (5) a few days ago. I noticed that when they were over, they were over. Credits lasted about a minute or less. The first 4 were on Blu-ray discs (2 each) The Dead Pool was on Amazon.

When it is discovered that an enormous asteroid is just six months away from colliding with Earth, MIT grad student Liam Cole and tech billionaire Darius Tanz team up to save humanity from this impending apocalypse -- without ever alerting the public. As part of the project, Darius recruits an aspiring sci-fi writer, Jillian, to work on a theoretical approach to saving humanity. While they try to save the world their way, the government has its own approach, with Deputy Secretary of Defense Harris Edwards spearheading the top-secret plan to deflect the asteroid

Reading a UK QB thread made me think of a scene from "That Thing You Do!" where they talk about Jimmy going off to write that hit song "Alone In My Principles," and it reminded me of how much I like that movie and haven't seen it in awhile. It's a really underrated movie IMHO.

Watched GoG2 and wasn't all that impressed. My wife loved both of them so I'm thinking watching GoG1 might be in order.

Nice! I'll have to check it out.

Watched the "live action" Beauty and the Beast last night with the wife and kid. It was good I guess but it was pretty much identical to the animated one, just with real people--and some really good cgi. I was left wondering what the point was.

    Potential Spoiler Alert

    ***********************

I don't like how they killed off Colin Firth's character in the 1st one but concocted a way to bring him back for the 2nd.

But it's all comic book stuff anyway, so not worth getting too bogged down in details I guess. Will definitely see it.

With the discussions in this thread and the Back to Cable thread I was curious as to the qualities overall comparing 4k streaming vs. 1080p vs. 4k with HDR (4K Blu-ray). I did a search and found this article: https://www.whathifi.com/features/4k...ray-which-best

Here's an article comparing video sources; 4K disc with HDR, 4K streaming, 1080P disc, and 1080P streaming. The article is over a year old but generally coincides with my own experience.
