    Really good movie. I enjoyed listening to the book from which it was adapted.

    I'm kind of into hiking books and movies, for some reason. I like the idea of getting out and doing a long hike, but don't have the time to do the ones that require weeks (like the Camino de Santiago) or months (like the Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail).

    Some other hiking movies/documentaries I've enjoyed:

    --A Walk In The Woods, adapted from the Bill Bryson book about his attempt to thru-hike the AT;

    --The Way, a fictional account of a father (Martin Sheen) hiking the Camino after his son dies while hiking it;

    --Life In A Walk, a documentary by a son as he and his father hike the Camino;

    --A Mile Mile And A Half, a documentary of a group of friends who hike the John Muir Trail in California.

    For Monty Python fans, Jabberwocky will be available to buy tomorrow thanks to the Criterion folks. Criterion is known for restoration of movies.

    Other great hiking movies in that vein:

    Enjoying Season 2 of "The Crown" on Netflix. If you didn't catch Season 1 it's well worth starting there and working your way to the new season.

    Just finished Leon the Professional and I highly recommend it. It stars Natalie Portman in her first major role and several other actors you'd recognize. The IMdB summary: Mathilda, a 12-year-old girl, is reluctantly taken in by Léon, a professional assassin, after her family is murdered. Léon and Mathilda form an unusual relationship, as she becomes his protégée and learns the assassin's trade. The movie scores an 8.6 out of 10 with over 800,000 votes overall. This movie has a little bit of everything.

    Re: All Things Video Thread (Movie or TV)

    Some odds and ends:

    --Just now getting to watching "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" on Amazon Prime. Very funny and also a nice little period show about NY in the late 50s;

    --Comedians With Cars Getting Coffee is now on Netflix--Jerry Seinfeld kicking it with comedians/comedy writers. Funny in a Seinfeldian way;

    --I'm a fan of old, pre-80s Chicago (with that big horn section and before the death of Terry Kath, a great, underrated guitarist). Netflix has a new and very good documentary of Chicago, "Now More Than Ever."

    I watched Comedians With Cars Getting Coffee when it was on Crackle. I'd exhausted what was there but if he's done more I'll definitely watch. Cool show.

    I'll be checking the other two as well. Thanks.

    Re: All Things Video Thread (Movie or TV)

    I noticed a month or 2 ago that Hulu has the complete St. Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues series. I learned yesterday they just added ER. It had been years since I watched it and forgot how good it was, especially the first few seasons.

    Also, if you watched "I'll Have What Phil's Having" (a travel/food show with Everybody Loves Raymond creator Phil Rosenthal) on PBS, it's now moved to Netflix and they just put the new season up. It's now called "Somebody Feed Phil" but it's basically the same show. Both the PBS season and the new Netflix season are worth a watch.

    Re: All Things Video Thread (Movie or TV)

    I did the same thing with Person of Interest on Netflix. Just started that yesterday. I did go through the three recommendations you mentioned about. All good though I think the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is going to be really good. Most of Seinfeld stuff was good depending on who he was riding with. I was a big Chicago fan in the early '70s and I remember Color My World being the go-to song for a slow dance with your girl. I'm 60 now so reminiscing is one of my favorite hobbies. Thanks again for bringing those to my attention.

    Re: All Things Video Thread (Movie or TV)

    Glad you like Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, badrose. And I think you're right on the Seinfeld show--the guest makes it. Although I noticed some of the shows I didn't expect to be good ended up being funny, and vice versa. I wasn't expecting much from the George Wallace episode but I thought it was a hoot. OTOH, I expected more from the Patton Oswalt episode. It was good, just not great.

    Last night I noticed Lawrence of Arabia is back on Amazon Prime. It cycles on and off the various services. My all-time favorite.

    How did you like Casino Royale? The 4th in that line, SPECTRE, is available on Amazon Prime in 4K. (in HD as well) IMO it's as good as CR. Quantum of Solace and Skyfall came out in between.

    That's a ridiculous price! The 4K is going for 29.96 which is ridiculous. I'll keep a close watch to see if the 4K version gives some on that price today. Both versions get top ratings, a 5 out of 5. Thanks for the heads up. BTW IIRC you own a 4K TV, right?

    If you're a Costco member, they have a deal going where you can get a year of MoviePass + a year subscription to Fandor for $89.99:

    https://www.costco.com/MoviePass-and...100395930.html

    That's almost $30.00 less than a year of MoviePass at the $9.95/month price.

    According to this, you can get the Costco deal even if you're a monthly MoviePass subscriber. Basically you sign up for the Costco deal (with a different email than your MoviePass email), then cancel your current MoviePass subscription. Down side is a 2-week delay in getting your new MoviePass card.

    We don't--yet. But Mrs. BEvans is lobbying to get one and put it in our bedroom*, and she's probably going to end up getting her way, as always.

    *--So Mrs. BEvans has trained me, as all good wives do, I guess, and that's a problem with a TV being in our bedroom. When we first got married I had to have the radio on to go to sleep. She needed the room quiet and dark, so I adjusted and got used to going to sleep that way. About 10 years ago she decided she wanted to have a TV in the bedroom, and of course that started wrecking my sleep quality but I powered through. We moved into our current house and didn't have a place to put a TV, so I was able to go back to having a dark, quiet room to sleep in. Now she wants to get a TV and mount it on a wall in our bedroom. I've been putting her off (we have a 1st floor master bedroom, so the nearest TV is about 10 feet outside our bedroom), but I think she's going to end up winning this battle, too.)
