    Ford Escape

Any thoughts on this vehicle, particularly the standard S version?

Looked at them, really liked them. Seem to have decent amount of space in the back for a compact SUV. I really like that the Escape still offered a 4WD drive model (at the time). But we ended going with the Edge. My wife really likes it. Sorry, not much help...

Got one as a rental two years ago. It had the 4cyl turbo. That car had some great get up and go. Interior was nice as well.

This is next to useless, but there's a guy on a radar detector forum I lurk on (mainly) that has one, and he loves it. Anecdotally, it caught my interest, as I haven't been a big Ford fan over the years.

The F-150, Edge, Explorer, and Escape are all hard to beat for the money. I have been driving an Explorer or an F-150 for over 30 years and have been really pleased with them.

I'm more talking consumer/family/sedan/van series, Dan. They've made some subpar vehicles in that venue. Made the mistake of owning a couple of them.

They have had the time to get the "bugs" out of them. I know of a lady at work that got one of the first year models, you cannot run fast enough to give her another one.
A friend of ours got one about a year ago and it is a peach. She loves it.
When Grammy had her wreck I was looking at an Escape but Grammy said she did not want another SUV (even though she could use one in her job for the extra cargo space, not to mention traveling where she has to have one suitcase for her shoes alone), so I would see them as a little brother to the Explorer.

I loved the Edge before they restyled them. Now I don't know. I have an Audi A3 tdi that Volkswagen is getting ready to buy back from me and I've got to get something to replace it. I love that little car and I'm going to be sad to see it go. Right now I'm thinking about a Jeep Renegade, probably just a cheap stick with ac, and give it to my son who's 14 now in 4 years or so. I'm thinking I should be able to sock away about 9k.

I'd love to have one of the new Broncos but I can't wait that long.

    Re: Ford Escape

We don't own any American vehicles, but if we did I'd be inclined to buy a Ford. I just think my Nissan, Scion dd and Honda are better long term values and choices.
My agency issued vehicle is a Ford Crown Vic with the police package. I have had very little trouble with it, and when I need to use it's power that car runs like a scalded dog.
My Dad was always a Ford guy, so I guess I acquired that from him.
