Anyone's have any experience with this Ruger?
http://www.rkguns.com/ruger-ar-556-2...ifle-8500.html
Rural King has it on sale for under $600, which is a great price for an AR with iron sights, dust cover and forward assist.

The price on the Ruger may sway me to them. The Ruger has gotten excellent reviews.

Re: Anyone's have any experience with this Ruger?
IIRC, it does not have a chrome lined barrel. In and of itself, that is no big deal, outside of barrel longevity. But that is a darn good price for a basic name brand rifle. And yes, Ruger has improved its product line immensely over the last 10-15 years or so.

I plan on getting 1 AR9, maybe 2 or 1 AR15. At least the complete lowers but I've never built one. I'd rather get an AR15 that is already built.

Not sure, but that price on the Ruger, very hard to beat. Don't think you can build one close to that price.

Re: Anyone's have any experience with this Ruger?
They still had them in the store last weekend at the regular price of $659. They do have the M&P 15 for $619 on the website, but had none in stock at the local store. My local gun shop has the S&W for $699, but may budge on the price if I show them the Rural King price.

I would think they'd be amenable to that.

Re: Anyone's have any experience with this Ruger?
KW, that is your basic build kit right there, and it's at a decent price too. I see you can get it on backorder, that is a good idea at that price.
Depending on how next Tuesday finishes up in regards to the election, this may be the best price you could possibly get. Jump on it, bud!MOLON LABE!

Re: Anyone's have any experience with this Ruger?
My suggestion is this: go with a good brand name rifle like Colt, S&W, Ruger, DPMS, or something close along those lines.
You'll want something that is going to be reliable from a brand that has been time tested, because, you know, when the Zombie Apocalypse hits...........MOLON LABE!

Keith, we might be able to wait for a Christmas special now
Cattle prices were lower than I hoped so two might be out of the question for now. I think I've decided on a 7.5" AR9 first if PSA ever gets the uppers in stock.

Re: Anyone's have any experience with this Ruger?
Rural King had the Ruger AR-556 on sale for $593.99 when I was there today. I didn't think it was fair to leave it in a cold store, so I adopted it.

Re: Anyone's have any experience with this Ruger?
Good choice. I just don't think you can go wrong with a Ruger.
Can i throw this in here? I may start a separate thread on it, but a friend of mine bought an AR and it's not feeding right. so I look at it and while I've worked on a LOT of guns Iv'e never worked on ARs.
I was surprised to find that the feed ramp on the AR is grooved in such a way that it's really not a very smooth ramp at all. I've discovered that's standard and correct, but it really makes me wonder why they did it and how one can work on such a thing when it's not feeding smooth. If he uses the bolt assist it will chamber, but it should chamber without that right?People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

Re: Anyone's have any experience with this Ruger?
It absolutely should chamber the round without using the forward assist.
What brand is the rifle? Or is it a homemade rifle? If homemade, who manufactured the upper?MOLON LABE!

Re: Anyone's have any experience with this Ruger?
CBBN, can you tell exactly where the round entering the chamber is being held from feeding correctly? After thinking about it some, it sounds to me like the bolt face that butts up against the rear of the cartridge as the bolt face pushes it into the chamber may not be aligning correctly. If so, it's the bolt, not the round that is the issue.
What brand is the bolt? Is it mil-spec, or SAAMI standard? Is it a name brand bolt, or an aftermarket unit?
Then again, I haven't seen it myself, so I could be all wrong. But based on my experiences with this particular weapons platform, that is what I believe the problem could be.MOLON LABE!

Re: Anyone's have any experience with this Ruger?
Sometimes you can look at the brass that is being forced to chamber and tell what is going on by the marks left on the brass.
