KYNG Deployment

I saw a tweet from Dave Baker saying that today he is visiting with a Kentucky National Guard unit which is preparing to deploy to Afghanistan. Their mission will be to teach the Afghani's better farming methods. Why are we disrupting the families of citizen soldiers to do a job that should be done by some NGO? For that matter, why are we still sending NG troops to Afghanistan or Iraq for any purpose?

Given the comments he made about Israel sending ground troops to Gaza, I am surprised he is sending more US troops into harms way.
