    French Lick

We canceled our vacation in Santa Rosa Beach (FL) because my wife is scared of the Zika virus for unborn babies. So that is an announcement that child number 2 is on the way, due in December.

So now we are going to French Lick for a few days next week. Staying one night at the French Lick Resort, and two nights at the indoor water park.

What is there to do in French Lick outside of the resorts? I don't see a lot online. So I'm guessing not much Hopefully the resort will be entertaining enough? I did find some place that has elephants, Emily might enjoy that.

    Just be careful.
A lady I work with got a small scratch at the Splash park, and he next thing she knew she was on a long road to recovery.
What started out as a 1/2" spot on her elbow and before it was over with she has a 15" scar after many surgeries and therapy...

I'll keep her name anonymous for privacy reasons but you can't be too careful with an expectant mother and child...

    Thanks Pappy.

We have always wanted to visit French Lick, but I expected it would be for a short (one night) trip. Honestly, I'm not sure why we settled on it for this, well b/c the wife said so is why. Emily is only big enough for the splash pool, and the regular pool with a life jacket.....So it really isn't a water park trip for us. LOL

Believe it or not, that is good news to hear. The folks on this board are like an extended family, just like my church family; you worry about folks and don't want anything bad to befall them...

My wife is also a germaphobe (sp?), so I really don't get the timing of French Lick. Also failed to mention that Emily is not big on water. LOL

But we will make the best of it.

I like waterparks - going to one next week - but boy, for a germaphobe, I'm quite surprised she would choose that. Me? I figure that everybody needs to build up some immunity by exposing themselves to germs anyway.

Sort of like when UK renewed the basketball series with U of L.

FWIW worth my kooky sister-in-law claims that the hotel is haunted.

Anyway there is a daily train ride that lasts about 2 hours and goes through a portion of The Hoosier National Forrest. They have special children's events at different times of the year, where they have interactive events for the kids.

Congrats on your baby news, hope everyone stays happy and healthy.

    Re: French Lick

I'm now home and thought I would share what there is to do.

With a two year old, just stay home. We made the best of it and had a decent time, but money could have been spent somewhere else. No real complaints, I'm glad we went, and I'm glad we are home.

Kids aging 4-10 would probably have a blast at the water park and enjoy a few things at the other resorts. You can also play mini golf and they have indoor go-karts.

Older kids - probably go somewhere else

Adults - not a bad get-a-way if you are within two hours, any longer than that and I would drive to Gatlinburg (5 hours) or St. Louis or Cincinnati (3-4 hours). The resorts are nice and the food is good, but to me, it just was not worth the price. If you wanted to go and just relax and not have to drive, then go for it. You can walk around the resorts and see the gardens but I wouldn't stay more than 2 nights.

They also have the casino if you are into that, and Paoli Peaks is about 10 minutes away if you want to snow ski (seasonal I assume).

    Skipped on the train ride?

See Darrell's Cherokee Motel thread, could be fun for next year.

We did skip it. Debated on that and the elephant reserve. But we pretty much lost our day at the French Lick resort b/c of rain. So we went back there one day. And decided we would take the time to get Emily having fun with water, we made some progress.

We will likely go back in a few years to do the Polar Express.
