    Exec Orders short on substance

Here are the new ATF guidelines over who needs an FFL. I'm not seeing any substantive change to licensing requirements. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016...ms-dealer.html

The wrench in the works is the portion dealing with violations of HIPPA for mental health reporting. An EO can not subvert law, and really they are only binding for the executive branch.

They really aren't changing anything. The definition of "in the business" has never been about location, and the regulators have fluctuated in the past on how broadly it is interpreted. In the 70s before background checks they took a broad approach but drew it back in b/c it was taxing the system so badly to do the required reviews of that many small time FFLs.

I'm actually fine with enforcing "in the business." there are some guys who definitely are, who buy and sell for profit and go to shows regularly who are acting as dealers and should have to follow the same rules as any FFL.

But that doesn't require an executive order. That requires telling ATF to enforce the existing laws. he could have done that 7 years ago.
People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

Re HIPPA, the states can report the required info, such as involuntary commitments, without any issues. They just don't. That's why NSSF has been going state to state to get them to report the info, and doing pretty well. They've gotten several states to pass the laws to report things.

The biggest issue is that states dont' keep very good records on these things. Georgia for example has no central database of such rulings, so there was nothing to report even if they did report for the guy who ended up doing the shooting in Louisiana.

Again, the gun industry itself has been trying to fix this issue for years. Obama could have joined them and put his weight behind it years ago and gotten something done years ago to improve the system.

Of course that wouldn't really help him politically or help to get broader gun control.

The most pathetic part of this isn't even about gun control. It's that Obama has done this to get the news off the colossal failure that is his foreign policy. The Middle East is almost in full burn, as bad as it's been since the Arab/Israeli wars, and his lack of leadership and guts is the biggest reason.

He'll never see that, but he does see the need to get off the topic, and he's now issued EOs to basically enforce the already existing law and managed to get the focus off the disaster he's created abroad.

NRA was a prime mover behind the instant check system. LaPierre's statement pointed out more weaknesses in the system than Obama wants to fix. When over 60% of the states enter less than 80% of their data you have people who are ineligible buying guns. The NSSF and the NRA are both big advocates of enforcing existing laws.

He's managed to restart the cold war, esp. in the Middle East.

If anyone who supported him had any sense they'd see that he's nothing but an American apologist who actually wants the US to have less influence in the world and believes we are the source of all the problems, not the ruthless lunatics who run rampant in these other nations all willing to kill millions so they can have their gold plated palace.

Just posted my prediction on the subject. Obama has emboldened every US enemy like no President including Carter, if only b/c Carter only had 4 years to do it.

What Lt. Col. Ralph Peters from Fox News said about Obama on the Fox Business Network is 100% correct. Obama is. But I still don't think that even I would have said that out loud on a major news network like that. Even though it's true.
The guy grew up for several years outside of the U.S., and then when his mother dumped him off on her parents he grew up in their affluence & privilege. He has no earthly idea what it means to hold a real job, except for the one real job he has ever had he's fouled it up beyond all recognition. And "community organizers" is not a real job, unless you're into anarchy & chaos. Kinda like what he's done to U.S. foreign policy for the last 7 years.
This individual is the sorriest U.S. President we have ever had, and we have had some terrible excuses for President in my lifetime, so that's a stand-alone achievement, if you will.
    MOLON LABE!
