External DVD drive for a MacBook Pro with an internal one?

So my son's roommate at college dropped his computer and bent the chassis/frame/case/box thing. Now the DVD drive in itself works perfectly fine, so says the genius at the Apple store, but disks won't come and go in the expected way. We are told we need a third party external USB or mini-Firewire drive that the computer won't confuse with the internal one.

Do any of the tech lords here have a suggestion about what we should buy?

    Thanks in advance.

In my experience they are all about the same. Just make sure it is Mac compatible. It should tell you in the description. Most things are compatible with both now but occasionally we still run into a few Mac compatibility issues.

If price allows I'd go ahead and get a Blu-ray one if it was me.

I keep dropping hints to my boss that I need one. No luck so far.
