Patricia is a beast. Fortunately the eyewall collapsed just before landfall, which reduced wind speed some. Tremendous wind damage and flooding is to be expected in the area. Flooding in Texas will follow in the next few days

Darrell, that is what they are saying, but I do not buy it. Strong storm for sure, but the dropsondes the hunter aircraft were dropping were giving some odd readings and much of the "data" used to declare her the strongest ever has been done by interpolation of barometric pressure readings not actual readings. (using KY windage) Actual flight level wind speeds did not indicate the reported strength. Regardless she will go down in history as the strongest

I don't follow it like you do. Just sounds terrible for the Mexican citizens. I feel very badly for them.

Darrell, I did not intend to downplay the fact that it is a very violent storm. The folks in it's path needed to be in shelters, not in the typical Mexican shack on the outside of the major towns. Plus anyone in the path that live in the foothills or the mountains will suffer mudslides and flash flooding. I too feel badly for them as I am sure many will lose their lives today and in the coming few days

The mountains are currently beginning to tear Patricia apart, but it will emerge on the east side of the mountains as a strong low pressure area that should track north east bringing major rainfall to west Texas in the next couple of days and should cause major flooding in areas of that state. Hope the folks in west Texas are watching and taking measures to avoid the expected flash flooding
