Mississippi Travel??

I have friends that have Mississippi to visit to round their travel to all 50 states. What is on the must do in Mississippi list, other than shop at Jazy's shop??

Do you know what interest them? I could send them to the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale but they may hate the blues or a Visit to Vicksburg might not interest them at all if they are not history buffs, or Tunica and they do not gamble or like big production shows

The one thing I'm sure that won't interest them is Tunica/ gambling. History and such would be something they'd be interested in, plus good food all along the way.

This would have limited appeal, I'm sure... But there are some outstanding high school show choirs in Petal and Clinton, Mississippi. They often host show choir festival competitions that are a blast to watch if you like that kind of thing (I do.) They traditionally field nationally competitive show choirs, like on Glee and such.

They start on a Saturday morning around 7:30 and usually continue until about 10 pmish or later. They have all women's choirs, and mixed choirs, small groups and large.

I'll be honest. We have gone to see my children compete, but we watch as many schools as we can. It's fun to us, and I'm sure to many, it would be tedious. But just something different.

Also, I don't remember who put on the show, but years ago we went to Vicksburg and went to a Western play that was fun. It was crowd interactive... When the dastardly villain came out, you hissed . At some point, you threw peanuts at him. Or maybe we just added our own twist.

I like Vicksburg. I did stop in the casino once, but just to say I did and that's not my thing either. Have been to Tunica, Philadelphia and Biloxi casinos too. Did not like Philadelphia, but the others were good, especially Tunica and Biloxi.

I want to see the Biloxi Shuckers play. Or at least get their baseball cap.

Visit Natchez for the antebellum home tours, Vicksburg for the civil war history. Gulfport to see the Katrina damage and eat some great seafood, or Biloxi for the seafood, lighthouse, and Ship Island. As far as food goes, just stop at any local store and ask the clerk where the locals eat. Great southern food is not hard to find. Can't help with fine dining, as I am always looking for the down home local flavor.

I echo the delta blues museum. I would recommend taking the Natchez Trace. I like both Starkville and Oxford. The square in Oxford is a good way to spend an afternoon. If you ar in Starkville, stop at our friend Barry Woods place for BBQ. He owns the Little Dooey. But I am partial to the blues and the area around Clarksdale, the Delta. Go to a Juke Joint and if you're lucky it will be on that serves those famous Delta tamales.

Life in Mississippi is laid back. Take your time. Soak up the atmosphere and you will find some pleasant surprises.

boss, send me a pm and I will give you my cell and my personal email, tell them to get in touch. Vicksburg is great for the Civil War Park, and the historic homes, and the historic sunken boat. PLus there is a new restaurant there that we tried Sunday nite that is good.
Natchez is wonderful, all the antebellum homes are beautiful and they have tours of each. The Natchez trace is a great trip and my brother in law just did a bike trip this week and I have all the stopping points to visit.
The coast is not like the Fl or Ala coast because of the barrier islands but I still enjoy it. Ocean Springs has a neat little downtown area with shops and restaurants, Bay St Louis is a neat little town also with antique shops, and rigth on the water with a good sport bar with great burgers. Some neat things to see but the Katrina damage is gone but there is a museum that has all the info in a movie.
