    Favorite Minor League Baseball Teams/Hats/Names?

I've always been a big fan of minor league baseball, and the whole world surrounding it. That's "real" baseball, as opposed to Hollywood baseball, to me. Movies like "Bull Durham" made it much more real, too.

Anyway, was thinking about getting a new hat and ran across the Savannah Sand Gnats minor league team, and thought that was pretty cool. I have Birmingham Barons (of course--although I found it dull), Durham Bulls, and Brevard County Manatees (at Space Coast Stadium), which is my favorite.

There's a whole world out there. I suppose I need to get a Lexington Legends hat. I like the Montgomery Biscuits and the Mobile Bay Bears for a cool factor, too. I haven't warmed up to the Nashville Sounds yet, although probably if I attend a game next time I'm there maybe I'll change (they were in town 7/3 when I was there, but not 7/4 or 7/5).

Do you have any particular favorites? Toledo Mud Hens? Your local area? Have a pic/image of a particular hat you like? Post if it you do.

Re: Favorite Minor League Baseball Teams/Hats/Names?

By the way, I love fitted hats, but over the years, I've kinda grown away from them a little, as I find one fitted hat size doesn't necessarily "fit" like the same size in another hat. And there's not much room for variance there, so my preference now seems to be the flex-fitted hat, followed very closely by an adjustable cloth strap golf hat type buckle. I don't like the plastic adjustable hole straps like we all used to have when we played kids' baseball.

I know that's kind of a second topic, but related enough--what kind of hat do you like to wear?

Also, I wouldn't mind having a team "bucket" hat for an occasional beach trip kinda thing. I have none like that. Do they make UK bucket hats? I'm sure they do, but not sure I've seen one.

I'm a fan of Bowling Green Hot Rods and Chattanooga Lookouts, too. Both close to me (relatively speaking) and pass the "cool" factor, too.

I need to go to more Hotrod games. I'm in Bowling Green a lot, but I have only made it to one game. I plan on taking Emily (11 month old daughter) to a few next year.

I will go with the home town team and say Hot Rods. With the Corvette being built here in BG it is a good name for the team. They built a really nice ball park here to accommodate them and there is plenty of parking very close by. Stadium is not huge by any means but is well done and a great place to go and see a game.

I feel very fortunate that Louisville has a AAA affiliate of the Reds (my team), the Bats.

Any day at the ballpark is a good day IMHO, but the Bats have a great stadium down by the river and the team plays quality ball. We catch 5-10 games/season and have toyed with getting season tickets. We may get a small package next season.

Those are some fantastic hats. Love them. Some great possibilities here.

Re: Favorite Minor League Baseball Teams/Hats/Names?

Birmingham Barons tweeted some "clash of the caps" thing--I went to it, found their leaderboard, and it's really cool--they have the Top 100 up there. There are some FANTASTIC hats in the list. I could go broke getting the ones I liked.

Note--there are many I disagree with them on (toward the bottom of the top 100) that I think should be at the top. But it's all good.

Take a look at this link:

    http://www.milb.com/milb/fans/caps/y...board_full.jsp

Just some random ones that caught my eye that we haven't mentioned--

    Pensacola Blue Wahoos. Very cool.

Biloxi Shuckers. I think I have to have that one. That is too cool for words.

I like the look of the Montgomery Biscuits hat. Has a dignity to it that others lack. Not sure why.

How about the Las Vegas 51's? The story attached to the hat is almost worth it.

Lansing Lug Nuts. Yes, sir. Plain, simple. Have to explain the logo. I like it.

I really, really like the Biloxi Shuckers. I think that's my favorite, with the Blue Wahoos close.

I like the t-shirt better than that hat. The logo is great for a t-shirt. Absolutely superb. For my taste, the hat may be a little overwhelmed with it. But I'm kinda funny; definitely not the target market for most.

The shirt is fantastic. Works on so many levels.

I like the 2nd hat a lot. First hat doesn't really do it for me. The 2nd one has that "zing" factor. Sharp.

I actually saw the Isotopes one when I was searching a site with some minor league hats, and made a note that I liked it a lot. Looks major-leaguey, but with that minor league pizazz. Looks baseball, but with a flare.

That's a fun one. I like the logo above the hat better than just this hat, though. I like the spelling out of the word "Skeeters" on it, and it superimposed against the state of Texas. It is really eye-catching, and it sorta speaks for itself. Doesn't overwhelm the hat, either; just a matter of my taste.

Here are some of the ones I have mentioned:

Biloxi Shuckers, in black. I really like this hat.

Pensacola Blue Wahoos. This is their "bat fish" hat that I like. I'm "ok" with their hook one, but it doesn't "hit" as much for me.

Las Vegas 51s. I don't like this hat as much, but it would be cool, for the story.

Brevard County Manatees. Mine is a different color (and old). I wouldn't mind updating it.

I am hopeful that we can get a three day weekend at the beach before summer is completely over, and if we do it will likely be Pensacola. I would love to go to one of their games so that I could associate the hat with the team. I think it is pretty cool myself.
