“And when it’s time for leaving, I hope you understand…”

I watched a live in concert video from 1972, Dicky Betts out front of a band missing their band leader and trying to make a living and doing the best they can. Pretty brave out there in front of crowds all tuned up on Duane Allman’s incredible “Live at Fillmore East.”

And if things went awry many years later like things do, there is no reducing his contribution, especially in those tenuous days, to a band that toured and recorded successfully for another 40 years and that many consider America’s greatest. RIP

A legend. He picked up the reigns after Duane passed and became the heart and soul of the Allman Brothers Band. Took his place alongside that young man as one of the greatest southern rock guitarists in history.
Eat a Peach was a masterful piece of work that paid tribute to the bands fallen leader and saw Betts step up to see that the bands heart did not skip a beat.

After all was said and done, it turns out he actually carried in him the heart of the group, imo.

I think we will find that his lead guitar melodies will live on throughout time.

I loved the story of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” which was actually in memory of a gal named Carmella. And of their night time love affair by the tombstone of Elizabeth Reed.
