He maybe should have reported his career was hit by an RPG while falsely reporting stories from Katrina through the Iraqi war.

NBC has suspended him for six months without pay for reporting false stories on the nightly news. Um, NBC didn't know he was telling lies? The crew members with Williams had to know he was making stuff up.

The Nazi Broadcasting Corporation deserves what it is getting, and so does Williams.
This is something that most liberals excel at.........lying. Why tell the truth when you can "embellish" the story and make it sound so much more favorable?
Network news has been doing this for decades now. What good is news that you have to decipher/decode to understand what the truth is? Just tell me what happened and let me draw my own conclusions. I'm a big boy, I am pretty sure I can figure it out. Just like all of you guys on this board. There are no dumb people here. People with varying thoughts and opinions, yes. But no dumb people. But don't whizz down my back and then tell me it's raining and expect me to believe that.
Once again we come back to what has been happening in our newsrooms, our schools, and our government. The philosophy that it's okay to lie to John Q. Citizen through those aforementioned mediums is standard operating procedure, and has become so because our above mentioned institutions have been infiltrated and are now run by leftist/socialists/Communists who set the agenda through their lies and deceit. And this hasn't happened overnight, it has happened through decades of small, but meaningful moves that were slightly, if even that, noticed by the average American.
Time to start rooting these guys out. You know, way back in the fifties a guy named Joseph Mccarthy held Congressional hearings to bring this infiltration to light, but he let it become a witch hunt and it got way out of control. He had a good idea, but he lost control of the situation. And I'm not sure that could even be done now, because in all reality Congress is full of these people. And the White House. And the entire federal government. Supported by the LABOR UNIONS, which is another cancer in and of itself, which are all infested with these leftist types too. And then there are our educational institutions, where this liberal leftist poison is taught to our kids by LABOR UNION member teachers, many of whom are true believers like the guy in the Oval Office. And it goes on and on.
Things change. Everything and everybody does. That is supposed to be the natural progression of life. But it should not be an orchestrated, planned, subversive alteration of what we have otherwise been taught is right and to be revered.

I would've fired him and not looked back. "Fudge" a personal experience back in the war years ago? Suspend him. Falsify information/occurrence surrounding a news event you covered?

Bye bye. How can you be trusted to accurately report anything after that? Doesn't that call into question everything he's ever reported on?

There's a common principle in the judicial system--if you find one part of a witnesses' testimony not credible, you are entitled to discard the entirety of their testimony. I think the same principle applies here.

I'm not sure I am using the right word when I say I guess I respect them for giving him a second chance. Better them than me, I suppose. My credibility is important to me. Probably not as important to them.

Yes, just about everybody deserves a second chance...........unless you've done something so abhorrent or despicable as to preclude you from being even remotely trusted ever again.
Does this one act alone warrant no further trust? Maybe just one act, of itself, and if it stands alone and surrounding circumstances allow for doubt as to whether the mistake of fact was intentional or a mistake not egregiously made, then yes, I would believe that a second chance would be fair. But.......when further instances come to light, and then more, and then even more, well, then the basis for that second chance is irretrievably lost forever.
Williams obviously thought he was never going to be found out. That said, I know a job he'd be perfect for........he could run for office in Congress. As much as those people lie, he'd fit right in!

Getting a "second chance" is about a second chance in life, not necessarily a second chance with the same situation or job or career or responsibilities.

If you get convicted of embezzling, maybe you don't spend life in jail, and you get a second chance, it doesn't mean you serve six months then go back to being controller or chief financial officer. You may have to find a career in some other career than accounting.

He may deserve a "second chance", but that's not a second chance as a news editor for a major network. Second chances are about working your way back up, not taking six months in the Bahamas then coming back to your old job.

I'm one of the few that isn't all that upset over this. Guess its the cynic in me. Sort of like if you took an internet poll of how many folks had been to Woodstock, it would be way more than actually possible could have attended. Heck, Hillary Clinton faked a story about dodging bullets in Bosnia and she is soon to be running for the highest office in the land. We got liars and cheats running this country yet we get all upset because a newscaster who embellishes a story? Really? I guess if you believe them and take what the media says as being accurate then you feel like you have been duped then I can understand being upset. Me, I guess its sort of what I expect.

Doc, I'm not really upset, I just think it is stupid the way he handled it, just like the way Clinton handled his undoing. I'll give him credit though, he was risking his life getting the story.
