Joker Phillips announced today that Williams has a torn labrum and will miss the rest of the season. Since he redshirted his freshman year, although he would otherwise be eligible for a medical hardship waiver (medical "redshirt") because he meets the requirements, it would be the dreaded 6th year of eligiblity the NCAA prohibits, absent rare waivers granted.
Hate that for the kid.
I think Coshik would have a good case for a 6th year if he wants to come back. A similar case is Houston quarterback Case Keenum. He redshirted his first year then played the next four, but in that fourth year he blew out his knee three games into the season. The NCAA granted him a 6th year, but of course he was chasing several records, ending last season as the all-time FBS leader in touchdown passes.
Shik's only played in two games in his fourth year of eligibility.
