    Can you say 'pasta fagioli'?

So I'm watching the 'Bama-Florida and Kentucky-Mississippi State games, and I decided to go ahead and make a crockpot full of pasta fagioli. Or for those of you who don't speak "Eye-talian", that is Italian bean soup. My grandmother's recipe that she taught me how to make. And it's a Tuscan recipe, not Sicilian. No tomatoes in it at all. Just put it all together and turned the crockpot on, and I'll probably let it simmer until about 10 pm or so. Probably around 9 pm or so I'll open it up and add a couple spoonfuls of Pecorino-Romano cheese, recover and simmer another hour. Then it gets turned off, so it can cool enough to put in the refrigerator overnight.
Tomorrow we eat good! Momma Mia! That'sa some good zuppa!

Alabama, too. Well, not today, as it's 60 and sunny, but wait a day or two and they're saying sleet and snow again.

Give up that recipe, suncat! We need some spicy Italian in our lives, and not like that waitress Mick hits on at the Olive Garden.

I don't think she's italian. How many Italians have Harley tattoos?
People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.

I love good pasta and can do without tomatoes, but beans only belong in chile, so I need to see the recipe to see if I can fix it.

LOL! This recipe is awesome. I don't make it very often, but when I do it doesn't last very long. Of course, the secret is the olive oil, onions & garlic, which is the foundation. My wife and kids love it, said it's one of their favorite soups.

dan, you only use cannellini(white kidney)beans, or you can use northern beans, but the recipe calls for a white bean.
