Religious zealots writing textbooks to keep them free of prejudice, viciously repressive regimes running the human rights commission, nations who arm the world writing law to prevent US gun ownership. It's a heck of an organization.

The most corrupt, backward, fake, self-interested entity with which the US is involved.

Re: Time for a thread on the UN

I have been thinking about this lately and it is my opinion that our membership in the United Nations, as it stands now, is not worth the paper that charter is written on.
I think that the United States and many of our allies would be much better served by disassociating ourselves and our money from the United Nations and starting another organization with similiar interests as in how & why the UN was founded and using that organization and our allies memberships to advance OUR needs and goals and policies instead of the corrupt itinerary of the UN.
We have little to nothing in common with many of these 3rd world dictatorships that now set the UN agenda, using our own money against us. I'd be willing to bet you that a lot of other nations now in the UN would be more than willing to bolt from the UN with a quickness and follow the AMERICAN lead in the quest for a more fairly and democratically oriented organization that doesn't follow Russian, Chinese, or any 3rd world dictatorships lead.
Or just get out of the UN and leave it to fall apart because of its own inept corruption. To hell with the United Nations!

I have no problem blowing it up by either leaving or starting a new entity that usurps it for our purposes. There is no fixing it or even improving it.

I'd also be satisfied with us passing a constitutional amendment saying no UN law is applicable to us.

If the US were to leave the UN, it would falter and die within a year or so, and I'd actually bet good money on that. Our money is what gives the UN life. Take away that money and the UN dies a slow, painful death.
Which I am all in favor of.

when Canada withdraws from Kyoto you know it's bad, and Obama wants to keep working with them.

If not for the permanent seat on the Security Council I'd withdraw completely from the UN, and I'm not sure I wouldn't still do it.

What they're teaching in kids in this country is down right scary. There are schools in Texas that are calling the Boston Tea Party an act of terrorism. In Texas. In Charlotte, about ten years ago a teacher proposed a scenario where a man and his two sons are in a boat. The sons fall out. The father can only save one. Which one should he choose? The younger one because he presumably have longer to live.

No wonder so many are opting for home schooling.
Cool as a rule, but sometimes bad is bad.

Don't withdraw from the UN. Simply stop paying dues. Send one person to the Security Council meetings with the sole purpose to veto anything and everything. Ignore the general Assembly. And revoke the diplomatic status of everyone we feasibly can.

That will hasten its demise entirely.

Good with that approach. Definitely stop paying dues. Cut off the cash and the corruption will wither.

funny Dan. It's a giant multibillion dollar boondoggle and people still believe everything they say and publish. I'd sooner trust Madoff.

I know how to get them to move forward quickly. Cut off the funding till we're satisfied things are fixed, which means never writing them another check of course b/c a system run by Third World nations is unfixable almost by definition.

The most transparent administration in history.

The reason they can't find any merit based justification is that there isn't one. Pay is based on the Third World system of corruption and favoritism and nepotism and political maneuver, not merit or service. It's "get what you can when you can". I worked with just enough Third World bureaucrats (spent a month with a group of them) to know their view of this and ours aren't even in the same galaxy. They see perks and favoritism and graft as just a natural part of these jobs. Why else would you want one? They don't see it as corruption or wrong, just a normal part of how government works. That's how theirs works, why not the UN?
People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.
