Las Vegas hotels??

Heading to Vegas for the first time was thinking about doing the bellagio, anybody have any better ideas on places to stay cheaper that are nice? Wife and I are going out early so just footing the bill for 2 nights and its bout 300 per nt. any ideas to save money if its worth it would be appreciated. If its worth it ill fork it out.

Bellagio is top notch. Beautiful. Haven't stayed in it, but have been in it, very impressive. Is it worth the money? I can't say having not stayed, and you can book reservations at the restaurants no matter where you actually sleep.

I've stayed in "The Hotel", which is Mandalay Bay. Also very nice, very high end, but very contemporary.

Hard Rock is just off the strip, but I like it. Smaller, more intimate atmosphere, rooms are done in a retro 50s theme. Their Sunday pool thing gets a lot of attractive ladies, which is a plus. I have had nothing but good luck at their craps tables, they allow 5x backup on line bets, or did.

Venetian is Bellagio level, gorgeous, and they know it and charge accordingly.

I've also stayed in the South Point Casino, about 1.5 or so miles from the strip. It was nice, people were nice, but a cab ride from the action and energy of the strip. If I were going I'd probably stay on the strip proper, but I will say depending on the time of year there isn't a ton of "lets go walking." I would have thought of people walking around all over and on the core strip there is some, but when it's 110 degrees people stay inside or head for the pools with water misters.

I've stayed at the Monte Carlo, the MGM and the Bellagio, and the Bellagio is easily the best. Heck, the breakfast buffet alone is nearly worth it. At some places they give you a tiny little plate in hopes that you won't go back for another one. There, they give you a hubcap.

Loved the Aria. Hard Rock has a great casino level restaurant that I ate in quite a bit when there on business.

The Pink Taco maybe? Are they still in there? They have a diner one too, pretty good with the benefit of being open 24/7. Great for a post-craps playing meal. I love the hours in Vegas, one of the few places I can go and people don't throw stones at me for being a night owl.

Venetian, Wyn's is beautiful. Rooms are gorgeous.

One advice Michael, everything looks close but it is a long walk. Rio has a good international buffet that is actually seasoned and two blocks north of the strip. Caesars is great to walk thru, has two neat statues that come to life for a show plus the ceiling changes as if you are watching the sky for 24 hours. Rio does a nice parade with people throwing beads. IMO Bellagio buffet is over rated, too bland for me. Beside the gambling just a fun town

Good grief, the last time we were there Caesars Palace had only been open a few months, the mini suite was $65.00 per night, a couple could eat like royalty for $50.00 per day, the trolly was 50 cents to ride from one end of the strip to downtown, and a weeks pass could be bought for 5 bucks for unlimited rides.

If I spend $300.00 per for a room and $100.00 per day for food, what the heck am I supposed to use to give the house in the casinos?

Jazy -- great point about distance. "Next door" is a long walk when each casino is city blocks wide. Esp in the desert, which is mostly just uncomfortably hot or cold.

I stayed at the Imperial a few years back (7), we had a friend of a friend and got the rooms comped so the price was definitely right. They were nice rooms with good service and the casino was a casino. The biggest thing IIRC was it was centrally located and it was kind of our home base. Basically it got us on the strip and allowed us to roam....my head hurt on the flight home, mission accomplished.

I don't know. This place--back in 2004--had a 1950s diner quality to it. The breaksfast was out of this world.

I actually was staying at the Alexis Park Resort Villa. But I ate at the Hard Rock every day.

On one occassion, my server was a young woman named Christina. On the meal receipt her named had been abbreviated to Christ. I cringed and chuckled at that silly functionality in the computer to reduce the her name to so many characters.

I thought "God is my co-pilot". Christ is my server. As inappropriate it might seem (and apologies to any offended) it did give me pause as I thought my spiritual walk and how I might serve others.
