Snakes, snakes, everywhere!
Just got in from picking my son up from work. On the way out I saw 2 mocassins laying in the roadway, so once we were home I went inside and grabbed my snake gun and went back out. I killed both of the two I had previously seen, and ran over another 2 that were unfortunate enough to crawl out in front of me. I didn't shoot them, as they were too small to waste the ordnance on, but I made sure to run over them both several times.
I hate a poisonous snake! I know they serve some kind of purpose, but after having been bitten by one and almost dying from it, their only place in my mind is to be sent straight to hell!
We've had a lot more activity this year as opposed to others recently, probably because of all the rain we've had. No matter, zero mercy for any poisonous snake I see.MOLON LABE!

Re: Snakes, snakes, everywhere!
I've seen a lot of copperheads this year and big ones at that. I've not seen too many rattlesnakes, but I'v talked to some loggers that have seen a lot of them. I'm like you, I don't care for poisonous snakes.

Re: Snakes, snakes, everywhere!
Jeez guys....easy!!! I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm fascinated by snakes. First place I want to go at the zoo is the Herpaquarium. I would love to own one, but that would definitely be grounds for divorce for the Mrs. She, like you guys, HATES snakes. Drives her nuts when I see one when I'm cutting grass, and I just kinda move it instead of killing it.

I enjoy snakes behind glass, but that's as up close and personal as I like to see them alive.

Don't know enough about snakes so when I see one I consider it life a threatening situation.

Geez! These things are EVERYWHERE these last couple of days! I ran over 2 more this morning(small, again, not big enough to expend ordnance on)on the way out to have some maintenance stuff done to mrs. suncat's car.

Re: Snakes, snakes, everywhere!
I never kill black snakes as they kill and eat poisonous snakes. As a matter of fact, I have been known to catch them and release them on my place.

Re: Snakes, snakes, everywhere!
I'm with Dan on this, I never kill a non-poisonous snake. They help keep pests like rodents under control. But a poisonous snake, I see it, I kill it. Period!

I don't mind most of them, but I'm with Suncat on the poisonous ones. What purpose do they serve? They rank right up there with yellow jackets and wasps in my book.

Re: Snakes, snakes, everywhere!
They do the same thing as non-poisonous snakes: they kill pests as well. However, they are dangerous to man whereas black snakes, king snakes, and the like aren't. I do generally leave poisonous snakes alone out in the wild. Anywhere near my family or public areas and OFF WITH ITS HEAD!

Re: Snakes, snakes, everywhere!
Round eyes as opposed to slits = good snake. I have heard them called Cow Snakes (Cow Suckers) too, but I think that is a misnomer.

Where do you live Badrose? Corn snakes are becoming pretty rare in Kentucky. I remember them when I was a kid in Morgan County, but haven't seen one in a long time, especially not since moving to the big city.

Re: Snakes, snakes, everywhere!
Pretty corn snake too.
I only get garter snakes around the house. Used to have a bunch, dont' see near as many as I did but I don't really harm them other than by happenstance as they keep down the vermin.People keep asking if I'm back and I haven't really had an answer. But now, yeah, I'm thinkin' I'm back.
