Man, those were some great movies.
It probably says we are way too much like CBBN.

Re: You can only pick three...
2 other underrated comedies I'd put on that list for consideration:
Midnight Run
Spies Like Us

The Breakfast Club (probably)
Weird Science (probably)
Better Off Dead (probably)
Trading Places
ET (probably)
Friday the 13th, if at night
Risky Business
Beverly Hills Cop
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
St. Elmo's Fire
The Karate Kid
Caddyshack
Ghostbusters
Stand By Me
Top Gun
[Blues Brothers--has to be on the list, so artificially including it]
[Vacation-same]
[Porky's-same]
Depending on how you count it, I'm definitely in double digits and maybe close to 20. It's a definite 10 (or 13, if you include the three additions), plus a few others. And you know, that doesn't mean if it's not on the list, I don't stop and watch it. Those were some good movies.
How did Vacation not make their list? How does one make a list of iconic 80s movies and leave off Vacation?

Alien is one that I’ll stop and watch or record while surfing.
Doc, you’ll appreciate this because it’s your current neck of the woods. When Alien came out I was living in Jensen Beach and several
of us went and saw Alien at the Stuart movie theater.
There’s a lot more to the story than I probably need to go in to, but keep in mind it was my college days, and it was S FL in the late 70’s early 80’s.... and there were a lot of cattle farms in the area.

Bizarre omission. Clearly one of the top ones, no matter how you feel about your own top 3 or 5.

That was my question, plus no Airplane, “surely” that should have made the list too.

Alien was by far and away the scariest movie I ever saw. Only Jaws and Silence of the Lamvs comes close

Anybody else notice Scarface wasn’t on the list either.
I was living in S FL during the Mariel boat lift in 1980, and actually seeing the impact the lift had on the region was eye opening. When the movie came out and intertwined the story line with the Cuban immigration it hit really close to home. South FL was the wild, wild west in those days and IIRC Miami surpassed NYC as the most dangerous city in the country.

Re: You can only pick three...
The Princess Bride
The Shining
Stripes
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
-
Re: You can only pick three...
Oh-and where's Red Dawn?
The list maker obviously hates America.
-
You can only pick three...
We should make a list of the top 20 omitted movies from that list.

You should both be afraid. Very afraid. And yes that scene is hysterical. I won't say it's the scene I've rewinded on the most in that movie, but it's still good....
-
Re: You can only pick three...
Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Crap. Now I have a problem with my top 3.
Yes, we need a top 20 movies left off this list, we're up to about 10 stand out 80s films or more.

I had it as #2

Re: You can only pick three...
IFC had Caddyshack and Christmas Vacation on last night. Beetlejuice is on this evening. I think they will res how Caddyshack again today.
Top Gun is on AMC tomorrow, IFC advertised Top Gun for next weekend. IFC movies are uncut, for the purists.

Re: You can only pick three...
Aliens came in fourth for me, tied with LW.
If it had been on the list, Vacation is my clear number one.
-
Re: You can only pick three...
Looks like we could do our own with a top 3 just from the movies they left off the list. or do our own list, b/c a lot of the films on their list probably need to be dropped for those on our list.

Re: You can only pick three...
Die Hard
Weird Science
Caddyshack
