It's absurd to be honest. Tired and trite sound bytes that have no basis either in modern reality about who is really calling for limits on speech, assembly and thought, or in history where it's clear fascism grows not from capitalism but from the Leftist camps of socialism and communism.
And of course that's the only way it can be, b/c fascism is the imposition of the will of some over everyone for their own good, and that is the fundamental belief of socialism and communism as well.
Democratic capitalism is of course the exact opposite, believing you cannot pass a law to impose one group's will on another even if it IS better for that group in some way.
Take seat belt laws. Yes wearing a seat belt is a great idea, but I'm opposed to it being a law for adults b/c I have no right to tell you to value your own life. If you don't that's your business.
Only centralization of power can lead to fascism, and that's what socialism is all about, centralizing power into the hands of an "enlightened" elite who can make our decisions for us.
It's comical to watch people argue it the other way around, and frustrating beyond belief. A President who is deregulating across the board is pursuing Fascism? Huh? While the opposition is proposing laws that ban entire food groups and want a government agency to review our individual travel plans is somehow opposing fascism? Seriously, wow, just wow.
