List your favorite podcasts!
Covid has brought us many changes, and one of mine is a newfound love for podcast. I’ve recently discovered Dax Sheppards armchair expert, great in depth interviews with some interesting people. I of course started on murder podcast and must say “to live and die in la” is amazing! Super data science is good and if you like crazy listen to s-town. Man what a rabbit hole. Give me some more!!!!

List your favorite podcasts!
Great idea for a thread.
I enjoyed listening to S-Town, although I got tired of it by the end.
I have several downloaded I want to try with a common theme. Can't vouch for any of them yet.
Unsolved Murders
CaseFile True Crime
Crime Junkie
Atlanta Monster
My Favorite Murder
A few more I want to try in a different area...
The Paranormalist
Paper Ghosts
Haunted Places: Ghost Stories
What the Fear
Couple of miscellaneous ones...
The Way I heard it with Mike Rowe
Stuff You Should Know
This Sounds Serious
I can't really vouch for these much because I have downloaded them before listening mostly. But they have promise, I think.
Very interested in others. I want to walk a lot during the late Fall and Winter, and would love to enjoy some daily podcasts.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
Couple of other sick murder podcast:
1. Root of evil - black dahlia murder from 50’s or 60’s
2. Bear brook- this was a solid one that describes the initial use of dna to solve crimes.
3. Your own backyard
4. Up and vanished - long but good to really good at times.
Nothing compares to “to live and die in la” to me, they solve it before your ears...you will binge the crap out of it. Amazing.

I am very excited about those recommendations. Thank you so much for them. I will download them and listen to them first.

Downloading all except Up and Vanished... 102 episodes, I may wait on that one for awhile.
Thanks again. We seem to have similar tastes on these things. I'm not sure what it says about either one of us, but I won't tell if you won't.

That up and vanished may be two seasons, I think the first was good and second got old. Well...the murder podcast were my firsts and man they were good but I burned myself out and have been on the hunt for other things in the past year. You will really enjoy those I listed, they are all highly rated and popular. Really well done.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
Oh...bardstown is a must for Kentucky natives. You’ve probably done that one? They’ve been updating it of late now that the fbi is fully engaged.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
I'll Tell You What with Dana Perino and Chris Stirewalt
Mad Dogs and Englishmen with Kevin Williamson and Charles Cooke
GLoP with Jonah Goldberg, Rob Long and Jon Podhoretz
The Rewatchables on the Ringer podcast network
A History Of The World In 100 Objects by BBC Radio and the British Museum
Travel with Rick Steves
Dolly Parton's America--only 9 episodes, but very good

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
Reading these list of podcasts got me to thinking about the cornbread mafia based in Kentucky. Probably not on a podcast but I know there was a book written.

Listened to Bardstown. Was very good, and well done. I didn't know everything they discussed. Great interviews, good inclusion of police interrogations. Well researched.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
I really enjoy the Mike Rowe 'The Way I heard it" series. I think he is up to 175 or so episodes.

Listened to Bardstown, thought it was done nicely, wanted more details.

Will pick out a new one and start tomorrow while at work.

He talks about a little bit of everything, from Larry Brown to climbing a pole to make a telephone call.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
I let Sirius go a couple of years ago after finally getting to tired too fight anymore with the rate increase every year. They just turned me back on for two weeks free and say I can resubscribe for $4.99 a month for the first year. It’s worth that just for the classic jazz station.

Catfan73, the little song and dance with Sirius has gotten a lot easier now. The last time I called, I received a message asking if I wanted to cancel, or renew at 49.99 per year. If that was acceptable, all I had to do was press a button. Didn't even have to go through the charade about going to cancel, and then negotiating a deal, which was far too much like work to me.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
Started serial season 1, really good as I find myself investigating the crimes.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
These murder mystery podcasts are a throwback to the 30s, 40s and 50s radio. Little Orphan Annie, Lone Ranger, the Shadow ("who knows what evil lives in the hearts of men".

Listened to Bear Brook last week. Very good. Tied in some places I did not expect there toward the end.
I have a 500 mile round trip tomorrow and will listen to another series, and another 500 mile round trip Friday (may be 250 Friday, 250 Saturday), so I will be hitting the Podcasts again.
Might have a 300 mile round trip Thursday. I don't think so, but it is possible.
Wife and I are both in the car, so I need to hit on something like the murder podcasts, which we both enjoy.

Listened to all episodes of Your Own Backyard except one on my 500 mile round trip today. Home safe and sound at 1 a.m., good guys won 2-0.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
No trip tomorrow, but will have the trip Friday, weather permitting, so another 7 hours of listening. Gotta figure out which one to do. I like to do ones that are about that long if possible. It would be ok if the trip were by myself, as I could listen to the remainder of it anytime, but I have a listening companion so I'd like it to be close.
Due to telephone calls that occurred during the trip yesterday, we actually needed about 10 more minutes to finish exactly on time after we arrived home. That was ok; we listened to it after we got in.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
Darrell have you listened to “to live and die in la” yet? Man I liked that one.
I’ve been doing some Conan podcasts lately and the Willie Nelson one is gold. I like hearing Conan talk to people that you wouldn’t think would like his comedy as much. He’s great!

I started it, but I started it as a thing to listen to (with headphones) before going to sleep. So I didn't want to start it in the middle with my wife and I didn't want to start over. I haven't been listening to audio podcasts lately at home so I'm kinda stuck there after a few episodes.

Bttt did not want to lose this thread.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
I will have a 3 hour drive Saturday and a 3 hour drive Sunday, and then a 3 hour drive a week from Friday and a 3 hour drive a week from Saturday.
THEN...
Sometime the next week, it is looking like around a 2400 mile roundtrip, give or take. Not sure yet where my daughter will be working, but will be helping moving her.

You going to make that a 2 day trip, or are you going to have to take a boat for part of the journey?

2 days each way, I guess. 2 up, 2 back.
That's approximate, because I still don't know what the destination is.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
Being in Virginia and catching up on my history i found a solid podcast, "Virginia History Podcast", by Robert Van Ness which starts with the early settlers. It isnt going to blow you away entertainment-wise, but i like it and it served my purpose to give me a quick overview of the area.

Update...still don't know. She got a break because one of the jobs was going to have her start 5/17. She graduates 5/15, and was going to hate to have to miss graduation for this job. It's not like it's a permanent career job, either...just a stepping stone. Anyway, they offered her 5/24 to start instead, so it put that one back in the running. Odds are I will be in the car by myself on the way "up," and wife will be in car on the way "back," so I'll need to have two separate podcasts (I wouldn't want to be six episodes in on one podcast, and my wife have to listen to Episode # 7 on the way back, ya know?) I'll post when I know expected times, and maybe this group can help me figure out two good podcasts to use.
One is 996 miles one way (Guessing 600 miles Day 1, 400 Day 2; and then reverse on Day 4 and 5).
The other is 1086 miles one way (Probably 600 miles Day 1, 500 Day 2, and then reverse).
I'm already dreading it.

Re: List your favorite podcasts!
Do you have to subscribe to receive the podcast? Some to this point I have listened to by finding them on the web but others I have trouble finding.
