Darrell, is the heating and cooling unit all in the same metal box sitting outside on a concrete pad? Sometimes, especially with old old units you will find the evaporator coil in the attic in what they call the A coil.

No, just the AC thing outside. Heat thing, exchange thing inside the garage.
Forgive the technical language.
I wish your guy was here. Everybody needs a guy like that.
I'm sure my wife has access to that, but she's temporarily out of town. She should've left last weekend when the heat started; it's cool in the house today (a temporary fix only) lol.
In related news, my daughter, an aspiring performer/actress, is acting today in Tennessee. It's a small part, but a professional role. She looks young for her age, which is helpful as a 21-year old playing a high school teenager. Anyway, daughter and wife are both out of town for that gig.
Is she playing a role as a young teenage girl who comes from meager beginnings and lived in a house with no AC??? If so she’ll nail it...
Please counsel her on the evils of actors and actresses becoming vocal in their political beliefs thinking that we actually care what they think because they’re entertainers.
Thanks in advance...
In regards to AC option B would be to look around for a metal tag/small plate that has that information stamped on it.
I figured I could at least see if you’re getting a good deal, and if it was worth it have them drop ship at your address and then just pay your guy installation.

Adam Savage and a friend show us how to build a miniature refrigeration unit.

Replacement quotes just arrived. Attachment 9479
That is more than I imagined it would be.
Me too, Dan. It's not a big house or an extreme unit, just a middle of the road thing. I was expecting maybe $7-8.
Might want to get me that serial and model number. I just checked mine and there’s a sticker on lower back right with all the info. The model number should be 5-6 numbers serial number a bit longer.

Do those prices include the Vaseline?
Are they replacing the whole system, inside and out or just the coils inside?
Well, I was given those choices for new systems.
I also asked what it would cost to replace the entire outside unit , and if I would get an additional warranty with that. That was going to be 5100, with a five-year Parts, one year labor warranty.
Replacing the original problem - the coil in the outside unit - was going to be $2400 yesterday. Today they saw fit to reduce that to $1062 after talking to Trane. Only a 90 day warranty on that, though.
Three guesses which option I elected and two guesses don't count. I will guarantee you I'm going to get screwed on them ordering the part, though. I told them as soon as they quoted it that I wanted him to do it, but it was after 5 and no way they're going to order the part until tomorrow. Which means that I won't get the part he has until next week. Which means that I may need to go find a house to rent for another week or something.
All this AC talk got me thinking it’s time for a PM on our AC...scheduled for Saturday.

Wasn't going to mention it, but I spent Sunday afternoon doing a cleaning of my outside unit.
It will be easy, they said.
It will be fun, they said.
It will be quick, they said.
They lied.
And afterwards I looked as if I had been out rolling with the hogs.
But the unit was absolutely filthy and the cleaning has improved the function of the unit. It went from we were going to have to call the AC company out to check the refrigerant charge to it performs like it did when it was new.
My heart goes out to Mr. C.
Oh, they wouldn't have touched it for $65...not if they had any sense...
Only cost me $13.95 for chemicals. $130.00 on the waterbill (shower & laundry included), but at least I will have saved $6.37 on this months LG&E bill. And I got the satisfaction of 'doing it myself".
Oh, did I mention I got chiggers as well?
A nice, peaceful, restful Sunday after church...
lol Pappy.
Bless your heart. That's what everybody told me when I upgraded my Palm Pilot. I think I spent like $200 to upgrade a $49 device.
Update on the HVAC--still hot, but HVAC company doing what they should. They say because of the pandemic, it's harder to get parts promptly. So they are going to install a temporary condenser unit while waiting on Trane to deliver the parts.
Mr. Cartwright, I wanted to let you know that we are coming out after 12:00 today. Because of the location of the leak and parts availability (due to pandemic) we are going to remove the Trane and install a temporary condenser. This will not only provide you cooling while waiting on parts, it will also allow us to disassemble it with adequate space and properly repair the unit.
That's why I've been with them for 30 years.
I have an ice chest with water bottles and Powerade ready for them when they get here.
Hey, I just want them safe. When I went out there, it wasn't as bad as I thought, although it's supposed to be 95 with a heat index of 105. It's all in shade, though.
If we are betting on an arrival date, I will take 7-31-2020. I am being optimistic and hopeful for the sake of a family in the Ham.
That's a great pool question.
When will the Trane components arrive to repair the unit?
Dan -- July 31, 2020.
I'm going to be less optimistic. I think that they wouldn't be putting in another unit in the meantime if it was going to be soon (although 2 weeks is not soon). I'll take August 10.
Dan -- July 31, 2020.
Darrell -- August 10, 2020.
(I promise, I know nothing more than what I have revealed here, too, just in case. For all I know, it may be next week when it comes in.)
Other guesses?
Put me down for 8-5-2020. Just to be clear parts arrive 8-5, then may take a day or two to get the install scheduled, so repair would be 8-7.

Not to rub it in, but my guy texted me this morning and said he’d text me Saturday morning to give me the time he’s coming over. $65 for clean, and check out side unit (condenser coil).
He’s going to give me a quote on inside evaporator coil when he comes over. He doesn’t recall how hard/easy it is to get to it to service.
Me thinks it’s the easiest access to a evaporator coil ever... at least that’s what I told him.

Still waiting on them this afternoon... Attachment 9485Attachment 9486
Put me down for 08/07/2020.
So....this is why I use this company, guys.
They get here. They have a brand new Carrier unit to put in as a temporary. Same SEER rating, etc/ as the Trane. They tell me that when they started thinking about it, they wanted to make me an offer.
Brand new Carrier unit to replace the 14 year old Trane for the same cost of replacing the coil.
They said that would save them 2x the labor, they'd end up with a used Carrier anyway, and it was in recognition of our loyalty to the company. (And they cut the repair price down to less than half to begin with).
Sold.
Sorry about the Pool.
Technically Dan wins the pool, he was closest to you having an air conditioned house.
Congratulations to both Darrell and Dan!!!

Unless I am missing something, you did real well, considering all the heat and every thing you went through, but they have stepped up on the customer service side of it. Bravo to you for being a loyal customer and rravo to them for recognizing it.
Dang, I am really over my limit for this months verbiage...
Going to bed in a cool house tonight. Been going to bed at 2 am just because I wanted it to cool down a little. This feels like a luxury.
Got my air in today. Yea!
New outside unit, 14 SEER, and coils to match. $4,300 installed. Seemed a hair high to me, but probably not at all, esp. given prices you have been getting.
that's for the first floor. 2nd floor still a work in progress.
Let me get this straight. You got a brand new 3.5 ton Carrier unit, installed, for 2,400.00 or 1,062 if we are using the discounted price on the coil? If that is the case, that company needs to remain on your Christmas list forever.
Done and done! Guy was here for just about an hour. Got the outside unit cleaned and checked out. Said it was pretty dirty, and it was good we got it done. After checking pressures and line temps, he thought the inside evaporator coil may be dirty. After checking it out, it was fine but told me to change my filters more regularly. I usual try to change it monthly but it looked like I may have skipped a month... or two.
$65 cash, and a couple of cold bottles of water. Back in business...
Now it’ll probably blow up, or a tree will fall on it in a week or two.

Yes, the lower. Well it was about $100 more, maybe tax? Whatever it was, it was great.
We have a maintenance contract with them where they tune up everything twice a year and we will obviously continue buying units and using them for repairs as we approach our 30th year (my wife, who has notes on everything, tracked it down to February 1991 when we began). They stepped up huge.
